| 643100 | 2008-02-24 07:14:00 | I have a program which records direct from the sound card (and other sources such as tapes etc). The program is PolderbitS. It has worked fine for years, although I have not had the need to use recently. Just been trying to record one item from streaming audio but it is not picking up sound from the sound card, although I can hear it perfectly fine, I thought it must be something to do with the volume but have checked and increased that on the toolbar. Also, have checked the control panel etc and settings all seem fine. Thought it might be to do with needing to update the driver for my sound card, but not sure how to identify what sound card I have (got the Everest program, but my knowledge is insufficient to identify). Since Polderbits was last used I have had a new motherboard installed so it may well be something to do with that. I feel that I should know what to try next but no real idea !! Misty :help: |

Double click on the Speaker/ Volume Control down near the clock - Under Options ( top left) make sure " Advanced Controls " is ticked, look along the items to make sure nothing is muted or somehow got turned right down. If Advanced Controls are Grayed out look at the suggestion below. If Advanced is Grayed Out--- You can also check other items by clicking on " properties" in the Options and check ( excuse the pun) or unchecked items esp under the recording option. |

Hi wainuitech Had checked that nothing muted and that nothing turned down. Do not have the option of a tick for Advanced Controls but can find and see Advanced Controls and all at good settings and nothing at all greyed out. Misty  |

| 643103 | 2008-02-24 08:17:00 | In "Sounds and Audio Devices" Properties, tab "Sounds" it has a choice of "Sound Scheme". At the moment it has a blue strip selected with no words. If I use the drop-down bar I get the selections "No Sounds" and "Windows default". If I go to select "Windows default" I get a message saying if you chose a new sound scheme and do not save your existing scheme it will be lost". I have not changed this at any point so do not know whether relevent ? Misty  |

| 643104 | 2008-02-24 08:17:00 | Try this - Go into the option again, in Properties, make sure " Line in" & microphone" are ticked, that will bring up the Advanced controls. Have you tried recording any other Audio from another source Eg: The Microphone (if you have one). Note: Just trying to eliminate the simple items first. Also under the properties/Recording in the drop down Box ( and "Other"), see if there is option(s) to select the sound card/device. |

| 643105 | 2008-02-24 08:26:00 | Misty, A possibility. Does that mb have "Vinyl AC'97" sound? Have you tried rebooting? I had similar problem where sound scheme disappeared on boot from cold but always reappeared when I rebooted. |

| 643106 | 2008-02-24 09:24:00 | As you had a motherboard installed in January, and had a repair install of Xp, then problems with motherboard drivers, I would say the next thing you need to do is uninstall Polderbits, and reinstall it (probably doesnt 'see' your sound device). ;) | feersumendjinn (64) | ||

Used the Polderbits uninstall and had to reboot for it to be effective . Reinstalled but unfortunately still not picking up sound . Was very impressed because it picked up my alphanumeric identifier which has eighteen characters . Guess that must be stored on some file which is not deleted when you uninstall . Maybe I should try the Windows uninstall using Control Panel, though you would think that the one provided with the program would work better . Must give that a go ! Thanks for the suggestion anyway feersumendjinn Misty |

| 643108 | 2008-02-25 17:55:00 | Misty if you have on-board audio, maybe try disabling it in bios and throw in a pci audio card and see if that works. I had similar problems with mine recently and the pci card fixed the problem, my on-board audio must have died. |
