329912 2005-03-04 02:06:00 What opinion?

Please Lhosing I value your input into this discussion. Enlighten me as to your opinion on the metal and rap music industry, i'm all ears.

Your previous comment "oh dear" either says your are ignorant regarding the subject or that you didn't agree with what I sed. I anxiously await your reply.
What opinion you ask? That would be where you said, "Rap is dead, whats left are the dregs at the bottom of the cup! Gone are the days of N.W.A, Boys in the Hood, Cypress Hill, Easy E, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Ice Cube. Whats left is the washed up remains of these classic rappers who now rely on doing rubbish songs or featuring on CD's with c%&p singers like Nelly, Justin Timbalake, Usher, J Lo."

As for discussing this, I don't see what there is to discuss. You've formed an opinion of popular music nowadays without fully understanding how rap / hip hop has evolved from its early pioneers.

To make matters worse, you have the audacity to bring in "Cypress Hill, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube," in an attempt to justify your position on the matter. True pioneers of the genre included Tone Loc, Run DMC, Sugarhill Gang, etc. Seems to me your memory only stretches to the last 5 - 10 years, if that.

The fact of the matter is that the recording artists you have mentioned, are still putting out very good material and applying a broadbrush statement, as you have, does nothing but make me shake my head and say, "Oh dear..." :groan:

Iron Maiden is a heavy metal band from east London, England, formed in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris, formerly a member of Gypsy's Kiss and Smiler . They are one of the most successful and influential bands in the heavy metal genre, having sold more than 100 million albums world-wide .

Iron Maiden's work has inspired other sub-genres of heavy metal music, including power metal and speed metal . They are cited as major influences by (amongst others) the thrash metal band Slayer, pop-punk band Sum 41 and jam band Umphrey's McGee .

The band's mascot, Eddie, is a perennial fixture in the horror-influenced album cover art, as well as in live shows . Eddie also featured in a first-person shooter video game, Ed Hunter .

Iron Maiden have so far released 13 studio albums, 2 "best of" compilations and 5 live albums . With a string of festival appearances arranged for 2005, they show no sign of stopping yet .

For anyone whose interest may have been raised by this thread go and download Hallowed be thy name, The lyrics cover what’s running through a condemned mans head as he’s lead to the gallows, He starts off questioning his faith as to why he has found himself on this path, but as he takes his last steps re-affirms his faith in god and prepares to meet his maker .

Like any good song the music tells as much if not more of the story then the lyrics .

329916 2007-09-14 22:18:00 As one of the resident old farts here . . . I am not ashamed to like Tony Iommi, but not the whole band really .

I look at the individuals who make up the group and can usually find the really talented artist, not the artisans who profile on the coattails of the musician in the group .

There are exceptions . . but like I said between the lines, it's not the group that I appreciate . . but the individual masters in the group .

Now to the exceptions . . . and you may not like or appreciate their collective works, but I tried here to show that there are groups that have very talented artists in every position, not just the leader .

Styxx . . . (do I hear gasps?)

The Eagles

The Stones

The Beatles with the exception of maybe Ringo .

ZZ Top (so MUCH sound from just three guys)

The Beachboys . . . every one a genius!

CSNY . . . no comment needed or made!

Fleetwood Mac

The Bee-Gees . . . (OK . . . More groans!)

Jefferson Airplane (Starship, & other permutations)

Buffalo Springfield

Manhattan Transfer . . . don't EVEN argue about this!

SRV & Double Trouble

. . . there are others

329918 2007-09-15 00:53:00 It was the greatest show I have ever seen, Heaven and Hell (the song) was mind blowing. I get a rush just thinking about that concert.

As for me, a single talented artist is worthless without the backbone of a killer band on the same wavelenth, and killer songs are only created when more then one "genius" has input.

329919 2007-09-15 00:56:00 Is their an announcement about Aussie?, last I heard it was just a throw away comment that was made on stage.

Besides, I'm going to Aussie if they don't play here, I'm not missing Iron Maiden again.

329920 2007-09-15 01:02:00 We should get Rob into this . . but I don't totally agree with you Met .

Sometimes one genius can hold a group together musically, but to assume that all the members are as gifted or talented as the musical leader isn't fair .

Some people coat-tail on the popularity and the abilities of others in all phases of life .

Many times when one of those backup artists make a go of it and strike out on their own, they hightail it back to the womb of the band again . . . . if the leader will LET them back in again .

That is what happens many times . . . . try to imagine any ONE of the Eagles going it alone . . . easy! They all have anyway and they were good individually or in the group .

They are one of the exceptions I mentioned .
