Attempts to do this by Michelson and Morley showed no difference, and this spelt the death knell of the ether theory . I'm not surprised, had they only paused to think for a moment, Michelson and Morley would have realised that the theory they were postulating bore a remarkable similarity to that ancient theosophical conundrum: "What is the difference between a duck when it walks?" This troubled the ancients for many centuries, until the answer was finally stumbled upon through a rare stroke of genius, aided by excessive consumption of spirituous and fermented liquors . The answer, quothe the ancient (and well lubricated) sage, is neither . One leg are both the same . Cheers Billy 8-{) :nerd: |
