Anyway, that's the main reason I asked the question here - if NZ requires (or allows) multiregion players then they'll produce it - just Australian law is working against them. There is a site, that has most firmware "cracks" for nearly every DVD player around. To make DVD's multizone. I wouldnt trust them tho. If its a dud or something, thats the end of your DVD. |

Basically you never "re-flash" any device firmware with a new version unless you are prepared to lose the item and/or it is needed to fix a known problem. As explained above it is a small but definite risk of total device failure when doing so, as around several % seem to suffer a failure in the process. Any failure is usually terminal. |

| 328915 | 2005-03-08 23:01:00 | Flashed the original DVD drive in my PC years ago. My local video shop was stocking lots of Region 1 DVDs at the time and I didn't have a stand alone DVD player then. Worked fine and I got to enjoy movies on my massive 17-inch screen ...... Since then I bought a supermarket DVD player for peanuts. Gets the speed wobbles now and then and bits are starting to fall off it it ... .... but it plays everything and anything. Home movie DVDs and video CDs I've burnt which won't play on the in-laws' expensive Sony player work in my Chinese cheapee every time. Any Zone disk, MP3 disks, whatever. Rock on consumer choice I say ............. |

| 328916 | 2005-03-08 23:26:00 | I have been known....to hire out DVD's from other regions,watch them,then take em back and tell the store they have a god damn cheek stocking DVD's that are made NOT to work on NZ players,...and of course i then get to swap em for some NZ region movies. One young clerk went so far as to tell me I had to check each movie before hiring them for compatability, Which got up my nose, So I said hell no, I bought a NZ player and I expect movies on hire in NZ to be NZ movies, If they aren't...then thats your problem to sort out,Not mine. Clerk tried to continue and I instructed him to call the manager...lmao,and was given a book of vouchers. Now I see all the non-NZ regeion movies have tags on the cover and large writing stating they will only play on multi-region players.... |
