2008-02-22 23:06:00 | I put together a pc recently. When I power it on there isn't any display on the monitor and the LED on it is orange. The monitor is a 15" Dell LCD. The specs are in my sig. I have already tried the following: - Used the monitor with my EEE PC, works fine. - Made sure the VGA cable is plugged in correctly. - Remove and reinstalled the video card. Did the same to its power connector. - Removed the video card and plugged the VGA cable into the integrated graphics port. - Moved the RAM to the next DIMM slot; didn't change anything. Any suggestions on what I can try next?

2008-02-22 23:53:00 | I can't install drivers yet as I don't have any OS installed yet. I'll to grab hold of another monitor soon. By the way, when I power on there is NO beep.

2008-02-23 00:14:00 | you don't need to install drivers to get the monitor to display anything - the default ones would work good enough to get you to that stage. I put together a PC recently Has this PC ever had a display working or is this the first time its been booted. By the way, when I power on there is NO beep. Assuming the board has a speaker inbuilt - remove all the RAM - Start the PC - it should go nuts with beeps indicating no RAM. If it doesn't beep you may have a DOA board - Just checked on Gigabytes site and the board should support the CPU OK. Had one similar yesterday and the person had brought a CPU that didn't work with the board, But yours should. If it does Beep , try what Gary67 suggested above, removing the Graphic card and try the on board Graphics.

If it gives you the same outcome, viola, bad ram! If it does work you might have some dirt or something else impeding a few connectors from making a full connection. On a final possibility, you might have a compatibility problem. Hope it works out! | Jibaro (13414) | ||
2008-02-23 12:24:00 | Ok, I stripped down everything and reassembled it and now IT WORKS!! I've just installed Vista Business and it's all good now. Sucks I'm left to guess what I did wrong the first time. The CPU heatsink wasn't mounted properly though I think. The AM2 stock heatsinks have a very clumsy locking mechanism ;(
