642725 2008-02-22 22:17:00 For a seniors computing group we are wanting to give them a copy of a genealogy program on a CD. How do you have it so that the setup exe runs automatically when they insert the disk?
Thanks

642726 2008-02-22 22:28:00 Have a look at this (http://autorun.moonvalley.com/) CYaBro (73)
642727 2008-02-22 22:37:00 Open notepad and copy/paste these 2 lines in it

[autorun]
open=setup.exe

then save the file as autorun.inf

(change the "save as filetype" dropdown from text to all files first, else it will be saved as a textfile and will not work!)

place this in the root folder of CD along with your setup.exe etc

To have an icon appear in place of the normal one in Windows Explorer, add
icon=*filename here*.ico

To change the label of the disc, add
label=*label here*

To autorun non-EXE files (eg a PDF, HTML files etc), download this. (www.autoruntools.com)

642729 2008-02-23 00:22:00 Thanks for your help – made that file:
[autorun]
open=setup.exe
and saved as autorun.inf and then put that file and setup.exe onto a CD but does not start up when the disk is inserted. If go into Windows Explorer and click on that drive then the install starts fine.
What am I missing?
Many thanks

Just as long as autorun.inf isnt in a folder, it should boot, when you eject it and put it back in the cd.
