644033 2008-02-27 04:57:00 I have a Lynksys wireless router. I have recently shifted house and got a new laptop -a Toshiba Tecra with Win XP (Ministry of Ed Lease.) I can connect to the router and internet fine using a cable. I can also connect ok on other wireless networks. My own wireless network connects, but says 'limited or no connectivity'. I can't access the Internet or email. I have spent hours on this! It seems to be something to do with an IP address, but I don't know how to fix it. I have logged onto the router, but I don't know what to look for. (Everything worked fine in my old house with my old laptop.) Can someone please help? Rossini (12327)
644034 2008-02-27 05:05:00 Is your wireless connection set to DHCP, or are you using a static IP?

If you're using DHCP, does that come from your Linksys router, or your ADSL modem?

Also, check the LAN security settings on your Linksys too - is MAC filtering enabled?

644036 2008-02-27 05:18:00 It has DHCP enabled.
<does that come from your Linksys router, or your ADSL modem?> I don't know how to find this out. Can you explain?

644037 2008-02-27 05:37:00 You can open a command window from your Run box, and type ipconfig /all

This will tell you the IP address of your DHCP server - is it the address of your wireless router, or your ADSL modem?

644038 2008-02-27 05:46:00 And make sure both are on the same channel, and using the same encryption. Speedy Gonzales (78)
644039 2008-02-27 19:29:00 I don't suppose any of you guys live near Whakatane and could sort it for me. <sigh> An a/c would be expected. Rossini (12327)
644040 2008-02-27 20:08:00 Alas no - but keep at it!! I'm sure it's nothing too serious!

We'll get it sorted for you! I know from experience how frustrating wireless setup can be!!

So have you done everything we've suggested so far?
