643367 2008-02-25 03:44:00 Have just replaced a dead hd in a Travelmate 220.
Have reinstalled, activated & updated OS, XP Pro. Got drivers from acer for modem & vga as they were both flagged.
Only 1 problem.
Modem wont work. No errors show in device manager.
When prompted in diagnostics to query modem, comes up with:

"The port that the modem is attached could not be opened. This may be a result of a hardware conflict. Check the device manager to verify all devices are functional"

There is nothing else installed or attached.
The modem comes up as "Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR"

Have rechecked acer but only saw the one driver for xp.

643368 2008-02-25 06:51:00 Hi there maybe you should try getting into your modems 'home wizard setup' or whatever, that worked for me. To get into your modem(so to speak)
start run from the start menu
type cmd
when the command prompt comes up type ipconfig
wait a few seconds for some meassages to show up, soon you a list of things like, ip address, subnet mask, etc
find your default gateway and enter that series of numbers into your internet browser.
the first page to show up should have a run wizard button, otherwise browse that area for a while.
This worked for me, hope it helps you!

643371 2008-02-25 07:35:00 It'll be a modem/hardware prob I would say.

Is this the file you downloaded ? (www.acersupport.com)

643373 2008-02-25 07:55:00 Did you set the country to NZ??

As it looks like its got countries, in one of its config files?

643374 2008-02-25 08:15:00 Yes thanks speedy, just went through the setup again.
Good all the way till the query tab.
Would have liked to update the mobo drivers but couldnt find any.
Seems to be a lot of devices assigned to the same IRQ number.
No conflicts listed though.

643375 2008-02-25 08:18:00 With a fresh install & std settings I shouldn't have to be tweaking those surely. Driftwood (5551)
643376 2008-02-25 08:51:00 Thats probaly why its having probs - the mobo drivers arent installed.

Youre meant to install these, before anything else.

Or did u install a copy from cd or something?
