332530 2005-03-10 01:28:00 Hi.Been trying to ring telecom on 123 and query on this months bill but I waited for 1 hour and still nobody there answered the fone.So I was wondering if anybody can answer my question

I live in Palmerston North and i live in a hostel and hired a fone line in my room.

My bill for this payment said

1 wire maintenance contract -- 5/2/05 -28/02/05 --$34.16

I was told by my hostel community leader that for a phone line per month it costs $39.30 and setup fee was $45.

But when I received my bill today it said 1 wire maintenece contract. Is this only a one off payment or do I need to pay the wire maintenece contract every month?

332531 2005-03-10 02:29:00 That is your monthly fee. You weren't bill for a complete month (5th - 28th) which is why it didn't come to $39.30 :) 4bes (2848)
332532 2005-03-10 02:41:00 Wiring mtce on a residential line is usually shown as a separate item about $2 per month.
The line rental should be shown as 1 Anytime or similar. Considering that your bill isn't for a full month and you may not be quoting the GST figure, it looks like the $39 won't be far wrong

332533 2005-03-10 02:43:00 .Above that is another one which says
1 home line 01/03/05- 31/03/05 and that was the amount of $39.85

1 reconnection fee $45

I don't get it!
Is there another number i can ring who i can talk to?

Try 123 and then find the right button,if perchance you press the wrong one it can drive you staight up the wall.

332535 2005-03-10 06:11:00 It looks like the $34.16 is the line rental for the period 5 Feb 2005 (connection date?) till 28 Feb 2005 (end of billing month)

The $39.85 will be the advance line rental for the next month (Telecom always charge line rental 1 month in advance, and not a "bond" as power companies do)

And $45 is for setup.

Which part is unclear? (I too am confused by the wiring contract reference though)

332536 2005-03-10 06:53:00 Yes that makes sense charging me a month in advance but I told telecom to connect my fone line on the 25th of feburary.

Hmm..They charging me for the entire month of february + march.
A bit evil!!!

332538 2005-03-12 21:25:00 Hi.Been trying to ring telecom on 123 and query on this months bill but I waited for 1 hour and still nobody there answered the fone.

I have had this happen to me. Rang 123 and pressed the required numbers to get me to where I wanted to go and then had a per-recorded message asked me to wait until an operator was free. On the 3 occations that I rang for the same problem, I was connected after about 15 minutes wait the first time, the second time I gave up after 40 minutes, and on the last occation, I went straight through. I think you have to pick the times to ring. It seemed that if you rang anytime Monday , you would be waiting for a while and Mondays after about 10am was a waist of time. Rang Tuesday about 8:30am and went straight through.

332539 2005-03-12 23:40:00 I've had much better response from using their e-mail complaint system.
I have always got a reply the same day, so have given up being on hold too.
Leave a contact number and the reason why they need to ring you as opposed to replying to your e-mail
