332291 2005-03-09 09:19:00 What a joke . . . I've been stuck at 45 - 60kbps for the whole month and when I call up (a 2nd time) this time a week before my billing cycle and data meter rolls over, I get told that they won't check on my fault because "I'm over my 10gig cap . . . "

I felt sorry for the guy on the other end of the phone, but the supervisor didn't want to know the fact that the problem existed BEFORE I had even started downloading anything in the new cycle, or the fact that I had lodged a complaint previously .

Not only that, but they weren't interested in the fact that last time they felt there was enough of an issue to send a Downer Engineering serviceman out to fix the local exchange!

Not a lot has changed over the last 2 weeks . . . sure, I'm over the 10gig limit on my plan, but they know for a fact that I'm currently not capped and have basically deemed me unworthy of customer service for that simple fact .

Their advice - wait till the new billing cycle, reset your modem and call back if you are still connecting at a low speed . . . am on a 2mb plan, btw .

So all in all, good on you Xtra for providing a new level of customer disservice . :groan:

Lo .

I thought the cap was supposed to limit you to 64KB not 3 - 5.

332294 2005-03-09 18:37:00 My speed is 10X faster than what it should be if I actually were capped...

332296 2005-03-09 19:14:00 My speed is 10X faster than what it should be if I actually were capped...So you're calling them to complain that you're getting a faster service than you should? ninja (1671)
332297 2005-03-09 19:33:00 So you're calling them to complain that you're getting a faster service than you should?

Thats what it looks like to me...

... And I thought that Aussies were crazy :p

If you had read the entire thread properly, you'd see that the problem was there before I even broke the 10gig cap.

If they don't cap me once I'm over, that's their problem, not mine.

I'm complaining because I feel it's a problem at their end, and not mine as it has never reached 2mb speeds the entire month.

Connection Speeds are measured in bits (little 'b') , Data is measured in bytes (big 'B')

One 1 B = 8 b

So you will be reduced to dialup speeds if you exceed you data cap.

As to the service, it is pretty bad. I use the 2MB plan & 10GB cap and I disconnect after using it. This way, my service level is always set to the whatever, I am authorised for.

Disconnect regularly also stop you logging traffic while you are not using it. People pinging, hacking, worms, viruses are always sending data to your ip address and this generates traffic as data is now counted in both directions, and whether you initiate it or not you will be billed for it.

Why don't you post some numbers. Actual speeds. Not "it's slower" "it's 10x faster"

You may not get 2M, if you're using a crappy modem/bad line/interference/far from the exchange. There is no CIR for ADSL.

Do the speedtests and post some real results.
