332301 2005-03-09 23:44:00 Yeah I know what bits and bytes are, I didn't realise though that the speed is dropped back so far when the cap is exceeded. It's 64kbs not 64KBs then, my bad. Murray P (44)
332302 2005-03-09 23:45:00 Ok - I'll break it right down for you.

I've already done a speed test. If you get capped, you get dropped down to 6.4 K bytes/sec.

On the 2mb plan, I've always been connecting and downloading at around 240 K bytes/sec.

For the whole month, including the period where I was under the 10 gig cap, I've only managed to connect at 45 to 60 K bytes/sec.

Clear enough for you now?

332303 2005-03-09 23:54:00 Actually its 8KB/sec = 64kbps which is the speed after capping ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
332304 2005-03-10 00:06:00 . . . connect at 45 to 60 K bytes/sec .

Yes I discovered this on my connection . It would appear that they seem to limit single connections to this speed . I have however, had multiple connections to other servers downloading at this speed .

Try downloading multiple files,e . g . 10 files from different servers (not user file shares) and see what you get .

NOTE: The average speed of the Internet is about 300-400 kilobits/second .
(see www . numion . com and check your speed to see)

Hmmm... interesting... just last month, I was able to download at up to the full 2mb speed from the one server.

I could swear I have tried downloading multiple files from different servers/locations with the same speed issues - I'll try once at home.

332306 2005-03-10 00:18:00 A case of false advertising then, 64KBs instead of 250KBs or, a stuff up on Telecom's part.

But seeing as they have dismissed your compalint on the grounds that you have breached the cap, you might have to suck on it untill the billing cycle rolls over again. If you're still limited to 64KBs, then you can justifiabley (in Telecom's eyes) complain bitterly, have the logs checked for the preceding billing cycle while your at it to reinforce your claim for a huge rebate.

332307 2005-03-10 00:22:00 It may not be "them" limiting single connections, it could be an operating system setting. PaulD (232)
332308 2005-03-10 00:25:00 My end? I've made no changes tho...
