331139 2005-03-06 20:45:00 Hi Beetle. Does your local hospitalhave a cardiac recovery group? I know that most of their patients are ancient and would have had their surgery in Wellington, but the Nelson cardiac nurses have some good stuff on the food/fat/salt contents of various foods. In one session they ran a class handing out various cereal and biscuit packages getting people to guess which were good/bad/dreadful. Teaching people to read the jargon on the packets to identify the "safe" ones. Some real surprises once you learn to read the figures and I'm sure the same rules apply to little ones. :cool: Scouse (83)

331141 2005-03-06 21:44:00 The only way to go is to have the same thing for them every day:

* Two sprigs of raw cauliflower
* Two sprigs of raw broccoli
* Two uncooked mushrooms
* One uncooked courgette

Ok, to give them a bit of a break, once a week a handful of uncooked spinach.

:D

331146 2005-03-07 13:32:00 C'mon Beetroot - surely commonsense tells ya - a bit of fruit, a sandwich with maybe ham or leftover chicken or beef or cheese with tomato and lettuce, and some raisins - what more could a youngster ask for.

Give em a fruity breakfast, and a healthy dinner 5 or 6 times a week, and give em a break for their school lunches - let em have a small packet of chips every second school day.

Variety is the key, and don't be paranoid - just ease up on the stupid cornflakes in the morning, and not too much milk if they have to have cereal or muesli.

331147 2005-03-08 00:29:00 Have you got a Heart Foundation office in your town? They have very good brochures and books on information and ideas for healthy eating. FoxyMX (5)
