334013 2005-03-14 18:05:00 Just wondered how you guys out there experience the QOS with your respective ISP's.

My ISP (unnamed for now) seems to have a broadband outage every 2 weeks or so, varying anything from 30 min to up to 4 hours. Reverting to backup dialup works, but of course the speed is snail-like.

Now I don't know if the issue lies with the ISP or Telecom, it would be great to know if this kind of thing happens to other ISP's as well, which should then point to a common factor, i.e. Telecom. The last outage I had was last Friday at around 4 pm.

334015 2005-03-14 19:38:00 Hi ya Bobo, how's it/the hanging, I trust your keeping your nose nicely polished??

I'm on Paradise ADSL (via Telecom). Apart from the major outages that have been publisised, I've only experienced minor outages which are generally solved by cycling the router. I must say, these have been more frequent in the past 6 months than any time in the last 3 years, but are only a minor annoyance.

The last time I needed to cycle the router was last Friday however, I can't say whether it was 4:00pm although it was the afternoon.

What do you mean by "cycling the router"? And BTW, if you have to do it twice in quick succession, is it called bicycling? :D Tony (4941)

Power cycling or rebooting if you like because the router has it's own CPU (unlike USB only or PCI ADSL modems, which are c**p IMO).

Yes it is but please do not confuse with bisexual, which may still require doing it in quick succession. If you have to tricycle, it's time to phone your ISP and quadra-cycle requires much toy throwing and dummy spitting :D

334019 2005-03-14 22:03:00 No, that's called a kickback, not to be confused with graft. Murray P (44)
334020 2005-03-14 22:26:00 Was just going to boast that I suffer very few outages with my Orcon ADSL connection when I suddenly lost my connection!

That is the second (or third?) time in several days but rebooting the router has got me straight back online again. So far.

334022 2005-03-14 23:15:00 I too have a USB ADSL modem and have had no problem at all with it since it was installed. It works fine.

As far as the topic is concerned, I haven't seen any problems with a broadband outage through my ISP as far as I am aware of. I have always connected easily when I need to. But then again, I am not connected 24/7.
