333629 2005-03-13 09:29:00 For some years I've been using Internet Explorer for browsing . Every day I have scanned with Adaware & Spybot and usually found several nasties to delete .

But: After reading recommendations from people here, I installed Firefox on 9 March .

Ever since then the daily scans with Adaware & Spybot have not found anything .

Should I think this is a recommendation for Firefox? I hope so, but on the 10 March I received new defs for Adaware .

Is it likely that Firefox is the reason for my recent lack of spy/adware, or are the latest adaware defs suspect?

Yes . But . . .

This article ( . vitalsecurity . org/2005/03/firefox-spyware-infects-ie . html" target="_blank">www . vitalsecurity . org) reports malware that infects IE by sneaking in through alternative browsers . Affects Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera amongst others . Needs JRE and user interaction though .

333632 2005-03-13 19:12:00 Don't biff out your anti-spyware app's just yet. As Vinref has pointed out, there are alternaitve ways into Windows. IE still lurks in the background like a rotten, maggot ridden, fish head in summer, it's in the bag but, the dusty won't collect it and you know how flimsy those bags are, don't you. Murray P (44)

Now that is the best, most colourful description of a MS product yet!
Thanks for the laugh Murray! :D

i suspect these nasties are infact just cookies . you may not be getting them with firefox depending on firefoxs default cookie handling for third party sites .

and yes you can still get infected with spyware .

Getting infected through the browser is only ONE way of being infected .

333636 2005-03-13 22:56:00 Ya, If your getting results daily then its just cookies, And most spyware programs don't currently scan for firefox cookies.

If you were using spybot 1.4 beta which scans for firefox entries you would be getting the same results as with IE, depending on cookie configuration.

333637 2005-03-14 02:29:00 I down loaded Fire Fox from the link in the Using Firefox-if you are not using it thread in chat just last week.
Guess what, also got Eaccelerate which then showed up as a threat when I ran ad-aware and spybot the same day.
Is this the same program which we are being warned of by the banks at present?
Have you all checked to see whether you have it?

333638 2005-03-14 02:43:00 eaccelerate has got nothing to do with firefox. you proberly downloaded it with something else or had it auto install.

no idea what the banks are warning about...they are usually a year or two behind the play anyway so its not usually woth worring about.
