333151 2005-03-11 09:49:00 I’m wondering how much I can expect to get paid/ charge for designing a website. The website will be about 10 pages consisting news/ announcements, information, photo gallery and a booking form. This is a community website.

My experience is that I’ve completed a 3 year course in TIM (Text and information management and design principles (MS Word, Excel, Publisher)) and currently doing a course called Print Design (which is university level (Photoshop, PageMaker, design)). I’ve also read/ reading books on HTML, PHP and web design in my own time. I’ve designed and made websites before in my spare times. I’d say I understand how to make aesthetically pleasing and functional website and how to upload them on servers.

The formality is that I’m 16 and my Print Design teacher referred me to this job from a local community association which has links to my school.

Yes, I would like to get paid. But I don't know how much, don't expect big bucks eigther. I'll probally be updating news on the website on a weekly basis too.

333155 2005-03-11 10:24:00 All depends on your design template… How much work you put in etc… and of course the finished product. Do you have any sites live? As for charging, it’s a community website (you should drop the price slightly… One good turn deserves another and all that rubbish…) 10 pages for an non-profitable industry we would charge around £300 – which includes, Domain Reg, Hosting, Site Stats, Site Submission as additional services; which is initially the first year payment, after that – what ever the hosting and domain renewal is, add 10 - 15% to this for yourself (most webmasters will look after the administration of sites they designed). That’s not an unreasonable charge for them to expect. Although if it was myself, I would want the site structure / template completed within 2 to 3 hours. JohnEire (4670)
333156 2005-03-11 10:25:00 I’m thinking $50 for designing/ making the website over 2-3 week period and maybe $2 a week for updating content (few minutes of copying and pasting news/ announcements). JimboJones (1680)
333157 2005-03-11 10:25:00 there is such a thing called community involvement, they have no money to splash out on a website designer, do it for free, then you may get referrals, and so on and so on, thats how i have done it Tux (606)
333158 2005-03-11 10:29:00 £300?

as in $900 nz money?

Whoa .

I would expect a full on commerce site with a few bells and whistles for that amount of money . . .

I would do it for free,Its a starting point rather then an earner, whack an add on the bottom of the homepage relating to yourself .

333159 2005-03-11 10:30:00 Well if you don't have any sites live yet... Do you want to design sites for a living? Then use them as a testimonial... Only charge for Hosting and Domain... You will also find most community projects have money aside for development! And the majority of the money comes from the Government or local council… JohnEire (4670)
333160 2005-03-11 10:32:00 Yeah, ok maybe that was a bit too much - But hey with me - you get what you pay for... no problems so far... I also design for local communities etc... but in Ireland these are well government funded, and the amount of tax I have give them... JohnEire (4670)
