This is why I don't watch many.
Hollywoods idea of a great story - butcher it totally, completely change the entire point of it.

The book wasn't at all like this.

The only other I liked was Gattica - the nearest a movie has come to real SF.

Ok, re-edit...

334515 2008-01-13 00:16:00 Dunno if this has been said, but that movie with Bruce Willis, 8 Monkeys? Or 12 monkeys, I dunno.

Also, not so much sci-fi but set in the future with amazing effects, Children of War.

334516 2008-01-13 01:01:00 Being a Sci-Fi fan of older films (1950's - 1979) - here are most of the the ones I liked and always remembered:

War of The Worlds - Alien Invasion (1953), Invasion of the body snatchers - A near believable creepy film of alien duplicates in a small town USA (1956), Forbidden Planet - Precursor to Star Trek? (1956), The Fly (1958), Return of The Fly (1959), The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), Mothra - Sci-Fi Monster Moth (1961), Horror of Dracula and the other Dracula Films with Christopher Lee (1958 - 1971), The Time Machine (1960, and 1979 version), Fantastic Voyage - microscopic size scientists travel in a human body (1966), The Bamboo Saucer - A cold war USA-China Sci-fi film (1968), Majin the Monster of Terror - Japanese Monster Sci-Fi film (1968), Planet of the Apes and others (1968 - 1972), The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971), and Altered States (1980)...

I can see you don't read much SF.
If you did you'd know its completely SF. Not Sci-Fi, which is a hideous media term.

SF is basically What If?
What if this happened, what would be the consequences.
What if this theory/new research/etc developed, what would happen?
What if this was possible, what would the results be?

Its not Cowboys in Space. Its not Soap Operas in space. Its not mystical semi-religious twaddle in Space.

Which is why Gattica was the nearest they have come to it.

Thats not to say cowboys in space doesn't make for a good action movie, or semi-mystical religious twaddle gets called Sci-Fi forever after and had some few good effects. But its not proper SF.

I could rant for ages, its a pet hate of mine.

You must be thinking of speculative fiction.
