| 334472 | 2005-03-18 00:56:00 | Haven't seen Quiet Earth in yonks. I have a feeling it might not have stood the test of time though. I must get 28 Days out, haven't seen it yet. It would make a good double feature with Shaun of the Dead .... | Biggles (121) | ||

It would make a good double feature with Shaun of the Dead .... The look of Quiet Earth may be dated I agree, but the atmosphere and the concept is very cutting edge and I think having another look at it might be a surpising breath of fresh air when compared to the likes of the StarTrek/StarWars/Matrix franchises. No fancy special effects, just a Torana and and a Holden One-Tonner ute driving through Manukau City Shopping Centre. |

| 334475 | 2005-03-18 01:50:00 | Well, most Hollywood Sci-Fi is heavy on the Fi, light on the Sci. I'm always surprised when I look in the Sci-Fi section of my local vid-rental shop, how few good Sci-Fi movies are there, which is because really good Sci-Fi rarely makes it past the Hollywood process intact .... | Biggles (121) | ||
| 334476 | 2005-03-18 02:12:00 | Its rare that any quality product makes it through the Hollywood machine without being totally ruined, especially as the studios put up the money, and know if they dumb it down they have a better chance of making money, rather then deliverying the best possible product and risking failure....I know it isn't sci-fi but look at what they done to Troy, removed half the story, replaced it with special effects and Brad Pitt and Orlando Blouse, What a disgrace. I supose they just pretend that their commercial movies that bomb never happened. Looking at the huge amount of quality sci-fi available in book form they have thousands of stories that could make it to film, but they are probally better off keeping their filthy mitts off them. The other thing that guts me is that of the only 2 book stores in Wanganui the SF section has no science fiction books, Its all unicorns and magic, maybe with the odd spaceship thrown in for good measure but you can garentee the hero of the story parked his ship at the end of a rainbow on a magical mountain then rode his Unicorn down to the people, who will of course be stuck in the dark ages and ruled over by a tyrant, who most probally has an army of the undead at his disposel. And off on a magical unicorn quest we go to free the land vol.373636 |

It's almost always the "Sci-fi and fantatsy" section. Really annoys the heck out of me. Imagine a modern mini series made out of Asimov's Foundation series? Or any of Ian M Banks books brought to the big screen. Sigh. |

| 334478 | 2005-03-18 05:05:00 | *thinking* Guess fav sci fi movie would be The Matrix (pity the others were crap tho, but then most sequels are) The one exception to the sequel rule was T2 (second fav movie) From then on.... the 3 original Star Wars, then Terminator Though I was a TV Trekkie fan, the movies really didn't do a lot for me |

| 334479 | 2005-03-18 08:35:00 | Imagine a modern mini series made out of Asimov's Foundation series? A man of my own thoughts.....in a word a trilogy / mini series would be 'astounding'. Kevin Spacey or Ed Norton as the 'mule' - now we're talking. |

| 334480 | 2005-03-18 10:08:00 | Or more "marketable", a series of movies based on his Elijah Baley "detective" books: The Robots of Dawn, The Caves of Steel and The Naked Sun. And why has no one fimed Enders Game yet by Orson Scott Card - probably because of all the violence being done by children to children. But heck it wouild make a great movie, just so long as Haley Joel Osment doesn't play Ender  |

| 334481 | 2005-03-18 10:17:00 | I have great respect for Orsen Scott Card, he maybe my favourite author (the Worthing Saga is pure genius) but after the 34th sequel to Enders game he really should have quit while ahead..... And he totally ruined the Alvin Maker series.... |
