333171 2005-03-11 21:19:00 You could possibly charge a token amount, but I'd be more inclined not to charge at all. What sort of community thing is it? Jeremy (1197)
333172 2005-03-11 21:37:00 You could do what I nearly did, well half did, and create a the the site at www.iloveyournamehere.com - or www.payyournamehereforwebdesignnow.com Growly (6)
333173 2005-03-12 01:43:00 I would say $50 per hour while you are designing and building the website, but put a cap of about $1000 .

On going updates charge $60 per hour, or $10 per 10 minutes .

Dont sell yourself cheap, if they had to pay a company you could easily double those charges .
Wooah!! These prices are mind boggling to me!!! And I was thinking $50 flat would be a bit too much . But I’m sure I can’t charge this, they’ll laugh in my face and hang up the phone . Are you sure? :horrified

If you make it for free, put google adverts on it and take the income from that, I get a check most months from google doing that to my own site .
That sounds like a good idea . . . but would it be fair for me to take the money for the google adds if I charge for the website? :D

You would be surprised at how much some "community" organisations have at their disposal . If they are agreeable I would suggest double that for creating the website and what you have suggested for maintaining it - $2 per week . That way you are getting a little pocket money and, if you do a good job, they are getting a bargain . With luck you will get referals from it as well .
Ok, this sound the most reasonable for me . I'll conclude with $100 for designing and building website over 2-3 week period and $5 a week for maintaining the website .

Thanks for the input everyone (more welcomed), I’ll phone them today at 6 to negotiate my pay .

PS

It took just a few hours of my spare time of an evening, as this one should of yours .
I plan to do a tad bit of research and get my Print Design teacher to critique my concepts before I start building . This will take 2-3 weeks with the spare time I have . ;)

333174 2005-03-12 02:28:00 And because I've just downloaded a new currency converter, I can report that John Eire's 300 pounds are worth NZ$780 tonight.
(How come my keyboard has no pounds sign when metla's has...Grrr...).

From an old Press F1 posting:

Hold down the alt key, and press 0163 on the num keypad.
(it appears when alt released) Like this: £

It works for me in Win 98, not that I ever use it.
cheers.

333175 2005-03-12 03:32:00 As a student with little experience, I would recommend designing the site for free. It will give you some practice and something to add to your portfolio. I think it is fair to charge them if they require you to make weekly updates and $10 per month as mentioned above sounds fair. Obviously hosting would cost extra on top of that. maccrazy (6741)
333176 2005-03-12 03:43:00 Web Designing pays reasonably well, but it depends what you are good at and what you are trying to do. I wrote an estimation on charges on another web site, but I've made it accurate in terms of how high or low fees are, but figures are just not correct, it can be a few more $$$ but that's up to you to decide. I'll get you the link for my rough estimation and hopefully from that you should be able to come up with some ideas of what to expect, but remember, when starting out and not having a large portfolio, you're better off getting experience and reputation before charging big bucks, unless you are that good.
