645121 2008-03-01 02:25:00 Strange tho - if you do dial 0880 instead of 0800, you can then enter another 16 numbers before it will give the "no such number" signal

LOL :stare:

645123 2008-03-01 09:01:00 I have been with Ihug over a year now and am convinced that no matter what anyone says one ISP is just about as good as the next.I have seen all sorts of complaints on this forum and most of them are user pie in the sky.IE someone thinking their ISP is crap because "someone" said theirs worked better. If you are with Vodafone on yr mobile just be content (but now and again upset) with what you get.

That is definately not the case, ISPs have different reliablility, and customer service levels. Perhaps there are a grouping of poor ISPs, and a smaller grouping of good-excellent ISPs. In the poor ISP list I would put slingshot and ihug. In the good-excellent list I would put Actrix and Xnet based on my own usage. I have actually hardly seen any complaints about Xnet here, and I think most people here seem to use them.

645124 2008-03-01 09:51:00 I have recently switched to ihug to take advantage of the free years broadband, have noticed a slight increase in broadband speeds from xtra both reported on the router and on general surfing. I will say however they're customer service and communication isnt great. Still havent changed our phone line over to vodafone and no word from them about it. Just says proccessing on the net for the past 3 weeks. hazza87 (12499)

I'd ring them to check, but I think you'll find it will start with them after the end of the (billing) month - telecom will charge you till then anyway, and if there is something else delaying it, it will probably be telecom and not ihug thats dragging the chain

645126 2008-03-01 10:21:00 Well the strange thing is that I've come onto the forum to get some advise on routers because I'm so frustrated with constant dropouts with ihug that I wondered whether its my own equipment(a DSE router). If i cant get on in the evening some times i have to wait till the next afternoon or sometimes it mysteriously comes on again while I'm talking to the techie over the phone as he checks it from his end, almost like it's been reset. I've complained several times but as is typical with bad service they never ring back to say what was found so you dont know if anything was done. Robinz (9362)
645127 2008-03-01 19:55:00 I have had phone with Ihug since they brought it out, never had a problem that they didn't fix promptly.

Recently I added their 1GB free broadband to it too, to save paying for 2 broadband connections (Xnet at my business premises).

Never had any issues with that either.
Our exchange recently had a problem - Telecoms end - Ihug listened to what I said, got onto Telecom promptly and had it fixed in no time.

Another lady here also has Ihug, she rang them, told them the problem, they got her to do a few tests, she rang them back (with my help) and same thing - they got onto Telecom promptly and had her back up in no time at all.

So, so far its one negative as per Fair Go and a lot more positives.

I would though, recommend either Orcon or Xnet over Ihug.

I think fair go mentioned that they also had other compliants, but they obviously can't air them all. They also ran several stories last year about vodafones service.

645129 2008-03-02 00:21:00 I will stick my neck out again and say "most problems with ISP's are not Isp problems" there are soooo many variables with the internet that it is impossible to compare any ISP at any other at any particular time.If there was a way to compare how would it deal with:
The age of yr local exchange,The amount of copper wire yr connection has to go thru to get to you.The number of gamers just up the road who are on line with you.
I will add tho that IHUGS support is rubbish.Could a bit of the "poor performance" of the
lower polling ISP's be because they are amongst the biggest so must get proportionally more complaints etc.If my neighbour has another ISP and they go to the same site as me at the same time and something is markedly different then I may look again but for someone in Auckland to say that us in Ykickamoocow are not getting "reasonable"
service is not on.As a last shot I ask,How many of you complaining are forwarding all sorts of rubbish that has to go somewhere and perhaps it is stuck in the copper lines at yr gate.

Oh you can. Price, customer service - like how they respond to a problem, not if you just get one.
Xnet screwed up my tolls, but were very good about it once it was pointed out.

Ihug quite possibly is rubbish, the bigger the company in general, the worse that sort of thing gets.
But I think it helps if you know what you are talking about and can calmly cut through the usual step by step stuff. They were very good at responding to that.

Then again sometimes its just the particular person at the other end too.
