644604 2008-02-28 05:10:00 can someone tell me if I can delete all the updates without getting into problems, I mean they're just sitting there using up space, or do they have to stay?????
thanks.

644605 2008-02-28 05:24:00 Why would you want to remove them??

Security updates are there for a reason - Windows has security flaws at the best of times, so removing the updates would be very risky!!

Or do you mean the $NtUninstall directories? Those can be removed.

If you're running out of space, I'd suggest you get Registry Mechanic, and Windows Washer - you'll be amazed how much space and performance you'll get back by running these.

Also, check the size of your system restore - given the size of modern drives, I usually set mine to 3%

644606 2008-02-28 05:26:00 Use ccleaner to get some space back, and yup you can delete the $NTuninstall folders .

BUT then you wont be able to uninstall the updates/patches

And if you dont use hibernation, disable it to get some space back

644607 2008-02-28 11:38:00 And you can delete all but the latest restore points if you actually have System Restore turned on. beeswax34 (63)
644608 2008-02-28 18:29:00 You can also from Program -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup. This will get more space back also. jberries (13063)
