645350 2008-03-01 16:20:00 Have had Vista for about a year. All of a sudden, out of the blue, when I plug in anything to the USB or memory card slot, the wizard no longer pops up. I am trying to down load some video from my Flip camera via the USB and can't get the wizard to load. Same with my memory card from my sony digi camera. Any suggestions? debbiepetro (13459)
645351 2008-03-01 16:36:00 Try this..if it works for Vista as it does in XP...........

With the SD card installed in the USB port, goto MY COMPUTER, do a right click and goto MANAGE and then click on DISK MANAGEMENT and see if the card is there.

HINT: the card will usually NOT be listed as having file system NTFS...but it will likely be FAT or FAT32

If so, just right click on it and EXPLORE...you may have to EXPLORE a few more times to get to the files...but then report what you see there.

645352 2008-03-01 21:09:00 Vista Is slightly Different for the Auto Play.

Click the start Orb, in search type in Auto Select Auto play from the search results. Make sure Auto Play is enabled (www.imagef1.net.nz) if it is, then scroll down to the bottom of the window and hit the Rest to Defaults Button.

You can also locate the Auto play in the Control Panel.

The problem is that while there are settings for Audio CDs and DVDs, there's nothing specifically for USB flash drives. Windows will determine the drive type based on the content it finds on the flash drive itself, so that's what we'll need to change. EXAMPLE (www.imagef1.net.nz)

645353 2008-03-01 22:04:00 Hi Surfer Joe

Thanks for your suggestion . When I go to Disk management under the F drive it says:

Layout: Simple
Type: Basic
File System: Raw
Status: Healthy(Active, Primary Partition)

When I right click on it and explore i get a pop up window that says: "You need to format the disk in drive F before you can use it, do you want to continue?" I got out of it because i was afraid if I said YES to that prompt, it would erase everything on the Flip . The strange things is this just started . I have had the Flip for a few weeks and we have had no problem downloading our videos . Another strange this is if I plug in the printer to the USB, the printer works . One would think that then it was a problem with the Flip, however if I use the Flip on another lap top here in the house, The Flip works!

Oh, one other thing . When I plug the Flip into the USB, I do get the "chime" indicating there was a connection . Just no wizard pops up . Also, if i go into "my computer" and click on the F drive, it again gives me the same pop up about formatting the disk and an interesting note is that total size and free space, there is nothing listed .

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

645354 2008-03-01 22:43:00 Did you do what I suggested in Post #3 ? wainuitech (129)
645355 2008-03-01 22:46:00 I did and it didn't solve the problem.

This problem came out of nowhere! Like I said, the printer works in the usb, and the flip works in other computers!

Did you do what I suggested in Post #3 ?

645356 2008-03-02 04:23:00 Have you tried different USB ports on the PC ? wainuitech (129)
645357 2008-03-02 06:12:00 I had issues on vista with a USB connection to my iPod... nothing worked, until I deleted the USB devices via control panel and let vista reinstall them.

645358 2008-03-02 14:51:00 I've tried all four USB ports and it just won't work. Like I said, the two items used to work and other things work in this USB and the Device works on other computers. For some reason these two items have stopped communicating with only each other.
Have you tried different USB ports on the PC ?

645359 2008-03-02 14:54:00 I tired this. Went into the control panel-install/uninstall and it doesn't even show this device as loaded (all of a sudden!!!). The Flip video is all inclusive so there is not DVD software, etc. to reload. When you plug the Flip into the USB it loads itself. Like I said, it was loaded a week ago and working fine. When I plug the Flip into the USB now, I get the tone indicating the USB has detected a device is plugged in but then Auto Play just never pops up.
