645319 2008-03-01 10:01:00 I am currently on Telecom prepaid and will soon be moving to Vodafone prepaid, I understand currently that you cannot keep your number when moving to vodafone prepaid. This is changing, as the commerce commision has forced them to allow it, The deadline is April 1st and no doubt they will use all the time they have to draw it out. I was querying the shop assistants about this and unsurprisingly vodafone have told them nothing about it so they had no idea what i was talking about and kept trying to convince me to go on a plan.

I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about the technicalities of changing phone numbers on vodafone sim cards. Ie if i was to purchase a connection pack now with a new vodafone number would i then be able to change it to my old telecom number when they allow it in a months time. Or do they program the sim cards when you buy them and then they cannot be changed?
Any help appreciated.

645320 2008-03-01 10:05:00 How do you make the move?

1. Go to your nearest Vodafone On Account retail store

There's bound to be one near you.
2. Choose a new Vodafone mobile and On Account plan (if you're on 027)

We have a huge range of world-class mobiles from the leading manufacturers, and some fantastic deals to make them easy to afford. (Your old Telecom mobile won't work on our network - but your TelstraClear mobile will.)

Our store representatives will also help you choose an On Account plan that best suits your needs. You will need to agree to the Vodafone On Account Terms and Conditions and also have a credit check.
3. Tell them that you and your mobile number want to switch to Vodafone!

Make sure you bring in the following with you, so that our store representative can switch you over:
* For users of an existing on account service - your mobile number and account number which you can find on your bill.
* For users of an existing prepaid service - your mobile number and current mobile.

Things you need to know:

* We will ask you to sign a form to confirm that you are authorised to switch your number from your current service provider. For example, if your phone is a company phone, you'll have to get the person who is authorised to change service providers to transfer the connection into your name first.
* If you're switching from TelstraClear, you can fill out the form online and send it to your account manager.
* The switch takes approximately three business hours from the time the store representative has started the process. Your store representative should advise you on a time they expect the switch to be complete.
* During the switch there will be a 30 minute period where you may not be able to rely on all mobile services. For example you will be able to make calls out on your new Vodafone mobile but not receive calls, and you may experience loss of some services on your old mobile. For this reason we suggest that you keep both mobiles on you until you receive a TXT from us (to your new Vodafone mobile) letting you know you are active on the Vodafone network.
* Hours that you can switch your mobile number to Vodafone are Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, so if the store rep starts your switch over at 5pm, it may take until the next business day morning to complete the process.

645321 2008-03-01 10:11:00 I can't afford to go on a plan! and even if i could i'm not paying $20 and month for 20 minutes of calls that i dont use! and are 20c a minute more expensive than prepaid rates. Then various add ons that make the bill at least $25 a month when i would only normally spend roughly $10 a month. It seems ridiculous that i can't change my telecom number to vodafone prepaid! even though telecom let you do it the other way around! Come on Vodafone even telecom are beating you at this! Scary to think. hazza87 (12499)
645322 2008-03-01 20:23:00 I am pretty sure you can go on pre-pay. Try and visit another retailer. mister harbies (5607)
645323 2008-03-01 22:01:00 I can assure you that currently you cannot keep your old number when moving to vodafone prepaid only moving to vodafone on account. See the vodafone links above or here (www.geekzone.co.nz) hazza87 (12499)
645324 2008-03-01 23:50:00 I can assure you that currently you cannot keep your old number when moving to vodafone prepaid only moving to vodafone on account. See the vodafone links above or here (www.geekzone.co.nz)

After April teh 1st however, they will probably be forced to. It may be best to wait until then.
