645166 2008-03-01 01:07:00 Just over a week ago, I noticed that WIN auto updates weren't installing. They would download but the installations failed.
Got onto Microsoft.
After a week of repairs I still can't install any updates.
Have repaired WIN using an old WIN XP CD in preference to the installed (HD) version and also repaired using the installed HD version. This seems to go OK.
When I try to install SP2 from either the CD that I have or from a clean download (3 hours), I get the same problem.
The installation seems to be OK, going through numerous processes including "Creating Restore Point" and through to about half way through "Installing Files" (various dll, exe, cab, etc)(this seems to be close to the end of the installation), I get an "Access Denied" window. The system then uninstalls all that has been done before rebooting.

I am running Kerio Firewall, Counterspy and AntiVir, but the Antivir Guard is not enabled at present as since the problem arose, the Guard and an auto defrag using Diskkeeper are malfunctioning.

Both Counterspy and the AntiVir (autoscans) have come up with a clean system.

Anyone feel that they can outdo Microsoft and get my system up to speed?

Cheers :)

645169 2008-03-01 01:45:00 Sometimes Security software can cause this. Simply disabling it doesn't work, you have to fully remove the software - so you have no AV, Anti-spyware or third party firewall.

You can also try This suggested fix (support.microsoft.com) from Microsoft. it means editing the Registry, so make sure you do a system Restore Point before altering anything, that way you can put it back if every thing turns to custard.

I'd suggest you try the second Method 1st, its a bit easier.
