336747 2005-03-22 07:03:00 I need to change my ISP. I have been with ValueNet for the past 3 years and have been very satisfied with the service and the cost has been around $9.00 for 80 hours a month.
Now they have been taken over by Orcon and I want to look at another server which gives me similar hours for about the same price. I intended to go to Kiwi on Line but I have friends who have had problems with logging in etc and I don't need that hassle.

Has anyone had experience with Infogen? Sounds good and we are Genesis customers but I don't want a slow or unreliable service. Any help would be appreciated. Maria

I am with Orcon and had no problems there. I have a good mate who has been with Infogen for some time ( since they started ) and he is very computer savvy. I think if Infogen was giving him problems he would change like a shot but there is no sign of that happening. Got to be taken as a good sign.

O.K. Just phoned him and asked. He is not wanting to change any time soon at this point.

HTH.

336749 2005-03-22 10:02:00 hmmm....I was in the practice of signing customers up with Infogen, people complaining of not being able to connect during peak times (5pm to 9pm) and the complete lack of a helpdesk (its easy to forget some people need these) made me re-evaluate where i was sending my valued customers.

Straw that broke the camels back was when i was unable to create new accounts via their website, I sent off 3 queries to them, never recieved a reply so started signing people up at Orcon,5 weeks later I got a reply from Infogen claiming whatever was happening was a problem on my computer.......HA, Tried from 5 different comps at 3 different locations over the course of 3 days.

idiots. I only wish I had been talking to the bright spark, though i presume most of these poeple blame the customer first, anyway,it was their loss not mine.

They were always owned by Orcon. Orcon didn't tell people - it was their budget service but as you payed for support and "orcon" customers didn't they kept it separate. But if you rang support, then Orcons, you'd get the same people. They see it come up and chnage their answer greeting accordingly. However Orcon decided to merge the two some time ago as they were sick of it.

So what would be your recommendation for an ISP then?

Bear in mind it has to cover everyone. Has to be CHEAP!!! Has to be reliable and have a great Helpdesk. Oh! Forgot! It also has to be Broadband, no data caps and run at a zillion megabits per second on both upload and download.

Preferably the helpdesk people will come and configure your ADSL for free and also make sure you can't get spyware or a virus. Oh forgot. No spam either.

336752 2005-03-22 11:10:00 No reason to delve into pure idiocy, I wasn't counter-acting what you have put forth,im sure he has had a good experience, I was merely putting forth my experience.

If thats the sort of gibberish to be expected then your input into a thread is not worth having.

336753 2005-03-22 11:19:00 AMD1 and Metla ... keep it nice please.

AMD1, no need to get sarcastic either over a simple request for a ISP recommendation.
