336831	2005-03-24 08:36:00	There are attempts at explanations. These usually begin at the molecular level with the particular stability of organic precursor molecules based on carbon. Many of these molecules, including everything from basic alkanes such as methane to amino acids such as glycine, have been detected in interstellar space. These is a definition of "alive". It lists criteria such as respiration, replication, etc. I think it includes even things like viruses and prions. Yeah, Ok Vin, I'll give you that. Heck, I was at work and shouldn't have been posting anyway. Couldn't think of something close enough to a rock - although a virus is a good thought. Is it alive? Views differ. We know amino acids are found in space. We can put them together in test tubes. But they don't create life. There is the "Why". Have a good Easter everyone. :D	Winston001 (3612)

The causative agent for spongiform encephalopathies (mad cow disease, kuru, Creutzfeld-Jakob disease), is a "self-replicating protein" called a prion. A virus does not respire and cannot replicate independently, but it has genetic material. A prion doesn't even have that. It is almost like a rock. We know amino acids are found in space. We can put them together in test tubes. But they don't create life. There is the "Why". Scientists are working on that very question. They do not have the answer, but I do not think at all that that means that they will never have the answer, or that they should give up looking for it.	vinref (6194)

Some expurts calculated the chance,it seemed exceedingly large with a huge power in the order of hundreds or thousands of zeros[scientific form] I dont mind when people can discuss these issues and actually listen..If no one discusses these things youl never know how biased your opinion is,or be challenged. :)	sbk (7676)

Actually, if the moderators allow it, then we should all be given speech freedom right whereupon everyone voice out their opinions regarding a particular topic, regardless of any people's sensivity . It's advisable that we don't involve any form of religion when explaining any phenomenon or facts . Likewise, some people might involve bible and jesus when talking about Evolution theory . Actually, if the moderators allow it, then we should all be given speech freedom right whereupon everyone voice out their opinions regarding a particular topic, regardless of any people's sensivity.Everyone seems to forget one important thing. PressF1 is run, owned and hosted by a commerical enterprise (IDG Communications Ltd) - it is not someone's personal forum that could be hard to hold accountable. What is said on these forums could be reflected back on IDG even with the clause in the forum rules. This is why there is censorship and no such thing as "freedom of speech" here. As an example, if something is posted on this forum that could result in a libellous law suit, then IDG is the easiest to track down closely followed by you. There is also the "keep it friendly" factor and what you are suggesting is that we ignore when people are insulted or offended by some comments. PF1 is a "family" forum where we get members and viewers of all ages. This has to be considered as well. Don't forget PF1 is primarily a Computer Help Forum (hence associated with NZ PC World), with the Chat forum availabe for general "off topic" posts to keep the main forum uncluttered from OT discussions. If you are after a free for all with full freedom of speech, then you might need to look elsewhere. :)	Jen (38)

336840	2005-10-15 04:42:00	The Christian fantasy tale is no less and no more real then the Gods that the Norsemen believed in, Simple fact is we don't know squat and will cover that fact up any way we can. In time i would imagine the Myths and fairy tales will be rejected, and perhaps we can see that happening already, Mankind may simply out grow fantastical stories to explain away the big unknown. Have faith if it helps you sleep at night, But have the manners to keep your delusions to yourself.	Metla (12)
