Is your friend one of the Young Earth creationists, who believe the earth was created only a few thousand years ago, complete with fossils, and who disregard all the evidence of astronomy ?

336802 2005-03-22 21:58:00 These arguments are so boring. Neither side wishes to listen to the other and the same old points are brought up by both sides and ignored by the other.

Leave the nuclear physics to those that understand it, not to those trying in vain to understand the attractive/repulsive forces involved.

My two cents on the evolution side of things...
Evolution is a fact, it does occur. The point of contention is whether it is the cause for the current diversity of species seen. (this may generate a storm of abuse... :D

336805 2005-03-23 04:55:00 Off track I know, but mr harbies signature "Bob is my Uncle, but he died." always gets to me, 'cos Fanny was my Aunt. My old man used to say that if she's been born with Meltla's "bullocks" then she's have been my uncle. I suppose you could say its vagualy related to evolution. Scouse (83)

336807 2005-03-23 05:08:00 Richard Dawkins, a well known evolutionary biologist, has come to the conlcusion that he has better things to do than "debate" with creationists, "intelligent designers", and other believers .

His alleged disagreements with Steven Gould (which have been made much of by such believers) did not stop him from writing to SG just before Gould's death, proposing that they make a joint statement rejecting any such "debates" . Gould died before they could do this, but was all for the idea .

Dawkins's draft of the letter to the NY Times, and the background is in his book "The Devil's Chaplain" .

Yup, he believes that th earth started 5000 years ago. But I tell him he might be mistaken. If he says that civilisation started 5000 years ago, that I would at least believe him. Cheers
