336265 2005-03-21 05:30:00 I worked on a PC from that street today. Modem looked like someone had taken to it with a blowtorch. You could see molten metal and arcing the bottom of the case. If her phone still works I would be amazed. Sam I Am (1679)
336266 2005-03-21 13:01:00 She could un-plug the modem and plug in a friend's phone there to check surely? zqwerty (97)
336267 2005-03-21 17:59:00 Not a plug in phone. It's wired in. And do you expect an elderly lady to do it without any help? JJJJJ (528)
336268 2005-03-21 19:13:00 Her modem should be plug in. If she can email she should be able to plug a phone in. Amongst all the people running around after this fault, have Telecom actually been contacted regarding her presumably rental phone not working? If Telecom doesn't know there's a problem of course it will ignore her. PaulD (232)
336269 2005-03-21 19:17:00 Believe me Telecom Knows all about it. JJJJJ (528)
336270 2005-03-21 19:42:00 Well we should relax then. All hardwired phones belonged to Telecom so they have to fix them. The problem may be arranging the visit time if she hasn't contacted 123 herself. PaulD (232)
336271 2005-03-21 20:34:00 JJJJJJJ,we are waiting for the conclusion and a happy ending to your substitute for Peyton Place. ;) Cicero (40)
336272 2005-03-21 22:45:00 Her modem should be plug in.Good point. I'd be very surprised if the modem was hard wired to the wall. ninja (1671)
336273 2005-03-21 23:37:00 Good point. I'd be very surprised if the modem was hard wired to the wall.
She tells me it is. AND she's also on jetstream! To be quite honest I don't know how it's all set up.
She had telecom in this morning and the serviceman told her part of her modem was welded to her phone!!!!! Yet her e-mail still worked. He's given her a new phone and now everything works.
Must have been a decent sort of a bang , there's still about 50 without phones.

336274 2005-03-22 00:17:00 Sounds like there's more to this fiasco than we'll ever find out. The installation should have been upgraded to jackpoints when Jetstream was installed. Any mention of Dialup was a red herring, ADSL doen't need anything shared by the phone except the wires back to the exchange. PaulD (232)
