335582 2005-03-19 06:05:00 I've never experienced broadband so don't know what I'm missing :)
Been on a paradise 150 hr/$15 plan for years with the crappy winmodem...
always connect first time, never get discoed and d/l is steady at 3-4 Ks...
online gameplay (GPL) is fine with aussie and useable further afield...

happy chappy really

335584 2005-03-19 06:42:00 I'm with organicpete- I've never had any problems with my winmodem. At least under windows. I offically despise ever having tried getting Lycoris & Conexant to play ball Edward (31)
335585 2005-03-19 11:57:00 $8 win modems give the rest a bad name. For that sort of money you don't get a hardware DSP. A decent win modem can be very good except when bad software takes 100% of the CPU (Adobe PDF Reader at times) then you can lose the connection. The rest of the time, a good win modem takes less CPU resource to run than a serial port and probably has more up to date software than some oldish external modem. Conexant excepted. PaulD (232)
335586 2005-03-19 22:16:00 I also think that Telecom are giving dial up users the run around, and are neglecting dialup users and are trying to get everyone on broadband. I changed over to broadband about 6 weeks ago due to poor connection speeds and download speeds, which once apoun a time use to be good. I was useing a $450 US Robotics modem.

335587 2005-03-19 22:31:00 Their cunning plan isn't working. I'm on dialup and it works so well for general surfing that I can't justify the additional spend for ADSL 256 :-( PaulD (232)
335588 2005-03-24 09:23:00 Hmm, looks like I might be eating my words....
Noticed a problem on phone line yesterday, rung Telecom, they ran their fault test, and yes, my phone line had a fault

Am going to hook up a new jack (soon) as the Telecom guy said that my extension was bad, tho the rest of the line is NOW sweet :)

Apologies to Quicksilver

Ummm and thank you Telecom
