645520 2008-03-02 06:23:00 Hey I was about to purchase a 20m Rj45 network cable willie nillie without thinking about it, but then I noticed there was price differences and cat5 and cat6. What does this mean?

When comparing Cat 5E and Cat6, the main difference is in the transmission performance and extension of the available bandwidth; that is 100 MHz for Cat 5E and 200 MHz for Cat 6. This includes better insertion loss, near end crosstalk, return loss, and equal level far end crosstalk.

I don't see what's wrong with cat5e

but if you have gigabit lan transferring files across computers, then cat6 is a must

cat6 is backward compatible and will be future-proof if you later upgrade your network
