335238 2005-03-18 01:03:00 I have never come across a rescreening in New Zealand or Australia of two of my favourite sci-fi TV series: Tomorrow's People and Space 1999. I have looked high and low in the video shops, but have always come up empty-handed. Just StarTrek/DrWho/Babylon5/StarGate/Blakes7 etc.

I also faintly remember a TV series about a plague that killed off most of the world's population, and the remaining tribes fight each other for resources. The introductory credits shows a man arriving at an airport and then people start dying. It was a British-made series.

And then there is the intriguing Sapphire and Steel. The very last episode shows them trapped in a room disconnected from time and space. I always thought that it was a signal for a new series, but alas nothing has happened. Too bad.

335239 2005-03-18 01:08:00 OK Videon, Dominion Rd, Auckland has Tomorrows people, at least some episodes. Love that show. And they have Space 1999.

The plague show you mean was Survivors. Haven't seen that anywhere.

Hey thanks for that Bruce. Looked up Google and found this (http://www.survivorstvseries.com/). It was written by Terry Nation, who wrote a lot of stuff for DrWho, Blakes7 etc.

335241 2005-03-18 01:14:00 And what about UFO, another show by Jerry and Silvia Anserson of Thunderbirds/Space 1999 fame?

It's a classic.

335242 2005-03-18 01:37:00 Aint Google wonderful? Finally found out what a show was that I saw when I was a nipper in the 70s. Scared the heck out of me: Timeslip. Didn't realise there were as many episodes as this:

www.timeslip.org.uk

maybe they never showed them all here. But this was cool (at least my memory says it was :-) )

335243 2005-03-18 01:45:00 What about "Time Tunnel" www.tvparty.com I watched this and enjoyed it. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
335244 2005-03-18 02:03:00 That was a hoot that show. Fun, but not exactly rooted in any serious Sci Fi rules.

For example, I remember one episode when the two time travelling docs landed (thump! - they always came falling out of the sky) in the Kyber Pass (India, not Auckland) or some such during a battle [if I recall correctly, it was a looooonnnnngggggggg time ago] between the Brits and local tribesmen. Since it was a high risk situation the boffins back at Time Tunnel HQ decided they needed some help, so they send a soldier through with some sub machine guns and ammo to give to the docs.

Wait a minute ............ they sent some sub machine guns through to a 19th century war zone!!!!!! Didn't that strike anyone concerned with the possible bad effects of time travel as a really bad idea?????

But hey, it was an American show. Biased I may be but I doubt a Brit show of the same era would have done that. Instead they would have made a whole episode about the possible dangers of doing that.

Speaking of which, remember the Flip Side of Dominic Hide starring Colin Firth's brother Peter?

335245 2005-03-18 02:16:00 And yes - what about the 1979 TV series Quatermass starring Sir John Mills? In which a mysterious alien force has destroyed society, causing all the young to go nuts and making them congregate in large groups where it promptly zaps them into molecules and beams them back home for food. Only older folks are immune ....

And then there is The Tripods, where an alien race (that resides in tripod machines not unlike the alien vehicles from War of the Worlds) has conquered human kind and forces all people to have control implents put in place once they reach a certain age. A small group of kids rebel and run away ...

335246 2005-03-18 02:20:00 You people are a treasure trove of sci-fi knowledge.

I have been confusing UFO with Space1999 all this time. I actually thought they were one and the same.

And I have nevercome across TimeSlip, the TimeTunnel or The Flipside of Dominic Hide. Too bad though, because there is a very poor choice of video/DVD outlets where I live, soI am unlikely to ever see these.

And with so much interest in good sci-fi, I wonder why they do not make more.
