| 338105 | 2005-03-25 22:29:00 | Anyone got any suggestions as to how to get a temperature reading onto a TV screen. Have a front door camera and this is accessible on all the house TVs (fed from an old VCR AV in RF out). Know you can get time/date generators so just need a unit that is similar. Prefer not to have to do it through a PC. Appreciate any pointers. Many thanks |

There used to be a kit available to put text overlay on a video stream, but have not seen that for about 10 years now. Then you would need to construct a temperature sensor and encoder to convert the output to a digital stream, suitable for input to an overlay. I am sure it is all quite possible to do with PLC based technology, but it certainly would be better if a kit was available. Just can't seem to find anything though. [But I like the way you have done it at the moment! 12° at 11:13:56 but you need to set the clock - its still on DST...] |

There must be someone somewhere that has the gear to do it without having the sort of budget TVNZ has to do these things! | stuffed (1469) | ||

They will give a serial output equally easily . I have built a box with the Microchip PIC16F628 and a DS18B20 and an LCD display . . . but that needed assembly code . Among the PIC application notes there's a simple circuit using a 16F84 which will display a few fixed characters on a video monitor . As always, the analogue stuff to make it into TV is a bit harder . :( |

. Many thanks :) |

It's an electronic thermometer which transmits to a display box . The display shows maximum and minimum in C or F, with a time display . It's hard to beat that sort of price . A unit like the one you want would be very expensive . Just a pair of 433 MHz link units and a TV modulator would cost about $60 . After that, there's the bits you can't buy . I had a quick look at the PAL standards, and can work out how to do the synchronising signals fairly easily, but generating text is "somewhat" more complicated . That's why it's done in a video card in a computer . Doing a nice thing like "window in a window" becomes horrendous . |

Now on a totally separate subject! We have installed CCTV in our town on a DYO basis PTZ camera and top of the line DVR works brilliantly and now some business owners want another camera on the other side of the street! Purchased from Jaycar their TV sender/receiver to try out ok but the picture quality is not good enough. Where can we go to get close to broadcast quality gear at a reasonable price?! There must be some good stuff out there they send video from racing cars etc to a helicopter. Appreciate any comments |
