339224 2005-03-30 22:10:00 $120 for a new release game? Comon, i'm a student... i have to pay for food, and gas, and rent, and MY HARDWARE!

I can't afford a Holden HSV, but that doens't justify me stealing one. I'm sorry, but there is no justification for what you are saying. Hit MS in the pocket by using Open Source. But by using their product without paying for it you are not doing anything real to voice your dissatisfaction with software pricing. You are just trying to make yourself feel better about stealing.

Warez is not good at all. While I don't believe all the figures the BSA likes to spout about piracy levels, and while the simple fact is that not every product pirated represents a product lost to sales (as vendors/music industry/movie studios would have us believe), piracy does effect the companies and it does effect the consumer. But all it does to companies is hurt the smallest of them the most while the biggest simply raise prices to cover the real/theoretical cost of piracy. And if you think they are just using it as an excuse to raise prices, well in some cases maybe you're right. BUT they can simply point to studies of piracy figures and say "there's your proof. We've got no option but to raise prices". Catch 22.

So I'm sorry, but I don't accept that there are noble reasons for using warez - that's rubbish. As for pirating games because you are a poor student - grow up. In the real world people can't afford to buy a fraction of the things they want so they focus on the things they need. If I was a coder working 80-hour weeks for a game company there would be two targets of my anger: 1] the publisher forcing me to work such hours and 2] the pirate who thinks he's justified in stealing and enjoying the game I spend 3 years working on just because he's "a poor student".

Maybe one day when you've got a job you might see thigns a little differently.

339225 2005-03-30 22:33:00 Why dont you live with your mum. She will feed you, house you, and you can borrow her car. Hardware and booze would be your only expense.

He does live with his mum, He obviously pays board not rent, and the food expense must be for snacks when mumsie isn't around.

I think its great that once he starts working for a living he will do it for free, granted he will starve to death within a few days, but you have to stand by your convictions.....
