Sorry Speedy. I did not check it out I pretty much left the machine to run on its own whilst doing some other work. I tried and failed twice with WU. Closed down Comodo and it then updated without further problem. Maybe purely coincidence?

646576 2008-03-19 20:13:00 Wainui, lets say it's not very functional then.

Let's say I designed a car with square wheels, it gave an awful ride and people pointed out it's limitations. Strictly speaking we can say it's not broken, though it may break those who ride in it. It's hardly functional though.

The other issue is, for what good reason would SP1, or Vista, refuse the integration of updates and does that mean that all future pressings of Vista cannot include SP1 (and any future SPs), which will need to be installed of a separate disc or image?

Just because we may not currently be able to slipstream it the usual way, doesn't mean that microsoft can't rebuild the entire DVD image their own way to include SP1.

646578 2008-03-19 21:33:00 Having problems installing Sp1 as well. Keep getting error 80070002 on both WU and the standalone package. I've tried all of Microsoft's suggestions to fix it but nothing works so now I'm going to try a format and reinstall :) joshjnz (7844)
646579 2008-03-19 21:44:00 Windows Vista with SP1 integrated is available for download for MSDN Subscribers (I checked this morning). It appears to have been made available on the 6th March, based on the timestamp on the download page. If you have an MSDN subscription, you could get the disk image off there. somebody (208)

Good point and one I had considered but dismissed, because:

Why though?

Perhaps an anti-piracy thing?

Oh, and, Wainui re the two required patches before SP1 will/can install, surely it's a simple matter to include them in SP1 with a script to check for their presence and install as required.

I hope I'm not coming across as (too) obtuse just for the sake of it. Trying to fathom the workings and mindset of MS, or any large dominant corporate for that matter, has it's own perverse satifactions.
