Driving fast makes me feel good,
The speed of light trapped under my hood.
................................Excuse my ignorance Metla, but whose words was that?????

338597 2005-04-09 23:53:00 I'm interested in your *555 experience.

I've phoned *555 several times over the last couple of years, always after seeing something outrageously dangerous or if I suspect a driver may be drunk (or just plain insane).
On many occasions I simply get told to fill in the form on the website and they take no further interest. However, I've noticed that if I state that the driver was speeding excessively, they suddenly take an avid interest. Nevermind if he was tailgating or weaving all over the road. It's the speeding bit that they seem to be most concerned with.
On almost every occasion I've been on hold for about 5 minutes before getting to speak to anybody. By that time, the driver is long gone and any patrol cars that happen to be in the area are unlikely to pick them up.
So I'm a bit disillusioned with *555, but then I'm not quite sure what we should expect from it.
There seems to be a better response from the community roadwatch forms.

.I think *555 is only good for "hey, just letting you know, the bridge has gone!" type phone calls

As for the stereotype of "Death Cult of the Young Male Driver"
yeah right.........

The daughter of an former associate of mine was killed in a car crash recently after a high speed head-on involving the car crossing centre line and hitting a van. The driver, or so i am told was a 16y/old female, who i assume was my former associates daughter. I was one of the people who taught her to drive, and she was too cocky about the task then. The car she died in was predictably reduced to an unrecognisable pile of scrap metal.

This morning (04:00) i was returned home after a night on the town with a carload of girls. The driver decided to pick up her boyfriend at 03:00, and have domestic unbliss for the next hour, and finally drop us all home. Her driving reflected her anger. I was first to be dropped off, but i cant say for sure yet that the others got home safely. Phones are not being answered, all though that is not unusual.

No amount of offering to drive could persuade her to let go, and allow me, the sober driver to drive. All others were too drunk and/or too angry to drive safely.

Never ever again will i go out on the town with my friend at the wheel, next time i'll just take the truck, or walk in. As i'm close to town its much safer to walk anyway.

338599 2005-04-10 05:54:00 Interesting story that, personthingy.
I'm sure the girls are just as bad as the boys.
Today I had a Maori woman (about mid-thirties) tailgating me ridiculously close through town (I mean about 1 metre off my bumper - so close I couldn't even see her numberplate in my mirror).
With nowhere to pull over, I just went from doing 50 to a crawling 35...and to be honest I don't think she twigged that I was doing it on purpose (she wasn't a particularly bright looking spark and neither was her passenger).
Culture certainly is changing - women in general are becoming far more aggressive.
