| 646563 | 2008-03-19 03:56:00 | Some sites say thats what this WAIK is for? There's an ISO on the MS download site (1197mb). Its so you can capture an image etc |

| 646565 | 2008-03-19 05:23:00 | Wainui, lets say it's not very functional then. Let's say I designed a car with square wheels, it gave an awful ride and people pointed out it's limitations. Strictly speaking we can say it's not broken, though it may break those who ride in it. It's hardly functional though. The other issue is, for what good reason would SP1, or Vista, refuse the integration of updates and does that mean that all future pressings of Vista cannot include SP1 (and any future SPs), which will need to be installed of a separate disc or image? |

| 646567 | 2008-03-19 07:26:00 | Wainui, lets say it's not very functional then . Let's say I designed a car with square wheels, it gave an awful ride and people pointed out it's limitations . Strictly speaking we can say it's not broken, though it may break those who ride in it . It's hardly functional though . The other issue is, for what good reason would SP1, or Vista, refuse the integration of updates and does that mean that all future pressings of Vista cannot include SP1 (and any future SPs), which will need to be installed of a separate disc or image? For starters I'm not getting into a pointless discussion as to why MS made it so the OLD way of slipstreaming updates had changed - it has changed - live with it . One of the reasons is that there HAS to be two certain patches applied BEFORE SP1 is installed - Now if its going through windows Update, these patches are installed before SP1 is allowed to install . So if someone did slipstream and not include these patch it WILL fail . As I mentioned before - you CAN add SP1 into a Vista RTM, just have to do it differently - Dont ask me why, I'm not a programmer working for MS . 0800 676 334 <<<< Call Microsoft and ask them So saying it cant be done is incorrect, but it CAN be done just you have to do things differently . If you worked for a company that uses these images to upgrade multi PC's and I'm talking LOTS then the integration is no big deal - the person(s) could have the skills and resources to do it in no time . The average home user would have no use for these such things - and even if they did its easy enough - load Vista, install the Updates and simply make an image of the install - easy . does that mean that all future pressings of Vista cannot include SP1 (and any future SPs), which will need to be installed of a separate disc or image? man If I knew that I wouldn't be working for a living :D - I cant see into the future - no one can, who know whats around the corner . I was just reading today that windows 7 could be out in 2009 - the first build M1 has already been sent to MS partners for code validation, so Vista may be replaced sooner than later . If you look back, years ago when VHS tapes first came out, if someone said you can record hours worth of TV on a single DVD it would have seemed like science fiction, unless you were some big multi million $$ company - today its common - as time moves on, the way we do things change . Learn a new skill - read and try things - don't stay in the past - Learn new things other than how to do it in XP style or people WILL get left behind . Example: At a MS road show , we were shown how to install Vista from a pre made Image Via a USB Drive - 7 minutes from start to finish, complete empty drive to fully working Vista Ultimate . After this post I'm not replying to this thread, no point - so all I'll say is there are ways to integrate any current service packs / updates - just has to be done differently . |
