337663 2005-03-25 23:10:00 I know you and chill do your best. all I'm saying is the banning instantly is a little overreactive, and there are a few inconsintancies.Banning instantly is what works. The constant reminders to behave don't. Unfortunately this is what it has come down to due to behaviour and experience in the past. Yes, there will be inconsistancies, you have three different Mods. There isn't a "bad post" points scorecard we use so that every action/reaction is standardised. We all use our personal judgement. Scary as this might be, we are human so how each person interprets things may be different. However, we are doing our best to be consistant and fair to everyone. Chill and I also give each other advice and support over our moderation and I know I can trust him to point out to me any major inconsistancies I might have. Works both ways. Team work. :)

How did the thread deteriorate to this? You asked the questions.

337664 2005-03-26 01:35:00 Edward, I have only one thing left to say.

Remember the old forum? How bad it had got at the end. The warnings that were given out instead of bans weren't doing a thing.

Now with a tougher but better (time-limited bans) system, the fights are MUCH less common, and the general atmosphere is lightyears ahead. If you look in the PressF1 forum, so many people are getting the help they need, and fights rarely happen.

Instant bans make the forum better. Perhaps it is not so on other forums, but it is on this one, and I think the Mods are doing a good job and moderating appropriately for the forum.

These 'newbies' that get banned are 99% spammers that just advertise their site on forum after forum. They don't need warnings, it's obvious what they're up to. In fact in most cases Chill or Jen look into the site etc, and discover that they are indeed doing this for no reason but commercial. They don't deserve a warning, they have no other reason to be on the forums at all. They can't really be called Newbies even.

I've never seen a genuine newbie trying to get help get banned. Don't forget that the Mods can see a lot more background of "newbies" than us users can.

I'll try not to participate any more in this argument.

Well I've found on my forums that banning dosen't work, but different strokes for different folks.Provided that all major rule breakers are dealt with :)

Only 3? What happened to Mary, James & Robo?

I'm not talking about different mods banning different users- that's normal amongst a team. What I'm talking about is some users getting banned and some not, and with the length of bans.

That's great, but where does this fit into everything? It's great that you guys work as a team, but what kind of point is it making? Congratulations on the excellent working together though :)

You asked the questions.

Guess what, it's RHETORICAL QUESTIONS TIME :D ;)
