2008-03-05 08:33:00 | We have a HP Presario V6000 with Vista Business. Owner downloaded & installed Logitech webcam software. Apparently it didn't go smoothly & finished up upsetting sound & modem drivers. A system restore was then done to a point prior to this. Upon reboot the system would load to desktop & present a found new hardware prompt for audio drivers. On top of that the reminder that Nortons had expired, then the system would freeze. There was no mouse visible either. The system will boot to safe mode then lock up in the same manor but without the Nortons. Have tried the last good boot configuration also, same. I have taken the HD out & saved the vitals but dont really wont to do a full restore unless I have to. I see there is a recovery partition. Any ideas?

2008-03-05 09:36:00 | Got a job similar tomorrow on a ladies Toshiba laptop ( AGAIN) - same thing happened to hers last year - it was Nortons that caused the problems, same as you describe - almost to the letter -But no setting would allow it to boot - removed Nortons manually by using Ultimateboot CD (www.ultimatebootcd.com) and the Laptop booted good enough to do a proper fix. | wainuitech (129) | |
2008-03-06 21:17:00 | Just an update on this. Got it running happily again. Uninstalled the Nortons as the owner has "One Care" to put on it.(her choice) The owner will also get a laptop compatibal webcam. But! I cannot get rid of the Logitech webcam software. It wouldnt uninstall, so I reinstalled it, then ran uninstall but it hangs with a minute to go. I have deletted the installation folder, removed all traces from startup & attacked it with ccleaner. Restart the system & there it is again.

2008-03-06 22:18:00 | The laptop has gone now but I will probably see it again. I googled "WebInstall directories" & up came a Logitech forum with the exact problem. Didn't say where they are located though.

No point in searching for the folder if the PC thats being worked on doesn't have the Cam software.:D Some software really likes to " Stay Put". |
