646543 2008-03-05 04:36:00 Just wondering if anyone with the right connections can shed any light on an ETA for having vista sp1 out in retail channels, e-tailers or normal retail stores. dirtbag (6060)
646544 2008-03-05 04:40:00 Why would it be in retail stores, its free.

Download it, when its out

You might as well download it and slipstream it yourself.

Vista SP1 can't be slipstreamed. But you can request Vista install DVDs with SP1 loaded on them from MS.

Or you can order/download a standalone copy.

646547 2008-03-05 07:17:00 As noted in this post at Windows Vista Team Blog (windowsvistablog.com) (it's an official Microsoft website), Vista SP1 was made RTM just over a month ago with timings for online availability mid-March. It doesn't say so but I'd guess retailers in general would be 1 week either side of this. sal (67)
646548 2008-03-05 07:23:00 cheers, just the info I was looking for dirtbag (6060)
646549 2008-03-05 07:27:00 Any Tech can get SP1 right now and load it into customers / own PC's.

As long as you have access to MS's OEM/Partner section.

I've been using it for the last couple of weeks and so far no problems at all.

Tried to slip stream it into Vista instead of installing separate to save time, I know MS say it cant be done but you gotta try these things -:crying

:waughh: Best of luck if any one tries - Vista SP1 is not designed to be slipstreamed, its not the same as the other service packs - heres a bit direct from the Vista forms from a Tech at MS
Okay. So here's the deal. And those of you who have experienced the SP1 installation have experienced this as well. When you do the SP1 installation, even if it's from Windows Update (when available), you're going to see your machine shutdown and restart on it's own several times. That's to be expected. See, there's this important part of the OS known as the "servicing layer" in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. This is the part of the OS that allows for easy update installation with minimal disruptions, allows for an update to be applied to an offline captured image that's within a .wim file, among other things. Well... let's say that that servicing layer ALSO needed to be updated? What then?

and
The short answer is that slipstreaming an RTM copy with SP1 is not supported in SP1, largely because of the change in the Servicing stack.

Basically it has been tried MANY times and almost every time without question IT FAILS - oh sure you can slipstream SP1 in, Read several places that tell you how, BUT from all reports theres a HUGE failure rate when installing, so far EVERY article I have seen says one simple word FAILURE!

Saw one article on how to do it and it did work - but geeees, was quicker to install Vista and the SP1 seperate.

Apparently the copy available on torrent sites is a leaked copy from Microsoft so it will be a proper Vista DVD with SP1 slipstreamed.
