338604 2005-03-27 18:39:00 Over the summer I worked in an MRI lab an Silicone Graphics International, SGI came to our lab, see below. They are a computer company, and I was able to give them a propsal for a project they were working on in less than a 10 miniute conversation, and without any advance notice. I was wondering, they told my boss they were impressed by me, but I want to take a fifth year. I also want to become a radiologist, but I have been able to find that I am good with computers and can do mac and PC, and I know about them, is this something is should go after ifI want to become a doctor/ Radiologist? How could I do both? Here is a link to the company:

Welcome to PF1.

Personally I think there is a better and more stable future in medicine or radiology. The computer industry is too flakey but I guess you have to go where your heart lies.

PS I always thought that Silicone Graphics was the art department for Penthouse or Playboy magazines. Are you sure you didn't mean Silicon Graphics? :D

Did SGI offer you a position now? If they are really keen on having you, you might be able to negotiate working part time while completing your Medical Studies (is that what your 5th year currently is?) or if they are able to hold open that invite for a year. From their prospective, having an employee with full Medical Radiology qualifications would be a benefit with their MRI research technologies. It would also mean you have a completed qualification to fall back on.

The company itself looks good and very diverse, and I see they are full supporters of Open Source as well :)

Tough decision to make. As Billy put it, you have to go with what you really want to do.
