What is the musical connection between Jameskan's Evolution thread:

and a short tenor?

The clue is in Revelation chapter 9 verse 1.

Another clue is I would prefer the answer to be in the original German, and remember I live in a time warp, so it is not recent.

338281 2005-03-27 10:43:00 Thanks for the challenge Terry, but this time Mr Google isn't up to it.

So far, we have Satan, played by a short chap singing in a high register, being cast out of Heaven and falling to Earth like a star. Auf Deutsch.

Well I can only think of Wagner but that doesn't seem to work. :help:

338282 2005-03-27 11:21:00 Ok, it is hard, the German for 'star' is Ein Stern, and 'from heaven' is von Himmel.
"Ein Stern ..... von Himmel"
The tenor was Rumanian, but had a German name and only 5 feet tall, one of my favourite tenors in fact.

I'll be back tomorrow to see if the missing word has been found, and I'll put a link to the song.

Joseph Schmidt, "Ein Stern fällt vom Himmel"

Still nothing to connect to Jameskan's thread...

338285 2005-03-27 20:47:00 That's right Vinref, "A star fell from Heaven", the title song from a 1934 film of the same name with Joseph Schmidt in the leading role.

Joseph Schmidt was a Romanian Jew, and one of the finest tenors of his day.

His shortness of stature limited his operatic career, as his leading ladies towered over him, and various devices were used to make him taller. Nevertheless, he had a successful career in Germany, but unlike Einstein and Conrad Veidt, didn't get out in time, and ended up malnourished and ill in a Swiss internment camp where he died from heart failure.

His music remains popular with re-issues on CD, and some of his films are on DVD.

Here are 2 clips from the song "Ein Stern fällt von Himmel"

A very fine singer indeed, a real favourite of mine, his story has a poignancy about it.

(Stern is pronounced sh-tare-n, which explains why Conrad Veidt sang of 'stare gazing' rather than star gazing)

And the connection to Jameskan's thread ? Well, you have to use creationists imagination and belief to link star and heaven to the evolution of the universe :)

338286 2005-03-27 21:06:00 Frankly speaking, I don't know why on earth would you guys start talking about me and linking the evolution theory to Easter... Big thanks to Terry Porritt who managed to amuse everybody. Haha and Cheers :) Renmoo (66)
