| 338056 | 2005-03-25 12:58:00 | I'd suggest someone might well be influenced by a voice which was bawling -depending on what it was bawling about, of course? The documentary film I saw was called "Bowling" etc but perhaps there's a different verson I've not seen? . |

| 338059 | 2005-03-25 22:54:00 | Anyone here seen it and know? or can anyone guide me in a direction. I have seen it.... the voice over is very leading... but its the editing that is the bigest thing. some part of it are edited in such a way that it looks like one thing when it is not. one sceen was an interview shot in two sittings but edited in to one sequence. the question is asked in one sitting and the answer is given in the other sitting, now it could be that the same question was asked in both sittings and they use what ever shot looked best or it could be that the answer used was to a diffrent question.... |

It is not only the words used - the tone of voice tells the viewer what to think and how to react. Michael Moore is very clever at this. He uses a down home ironic delivery which invites the viewer to disbelieve people being interviewed. He also edits interviews to deliver his message. So yes, the voice-over is very important and subtly influences the viewers impressions. Moore is not always accurate or fair. But that doesn't mean all his points are wrong. Bowling For Columbine is a good film, biased, but thought provoking. And he is merely doing what thousands of TV journalists all over the world do ie. present a story from the most dramatic angle they can find and dismiss opposing views. Eg. Cameron Bennett with his stories on the Palestinians, Jackie Marr with an incredibly shallow documentary on 10-80. |

| 338063 | 2005-03-27 10:00:00 | You might as well ask how a picture or photo could influence anyone . We don't need words to be affected by what we see . There is a famous photo of a senior Vietamese policeman executing a Vietcong suspect at point blank range in the head . The photo is taken at the instant the bullet hits . Unforgettable . And it is credited with finally turning ordinary American people against the war . . google . com/images?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=Vietnam+execution+&btnG=Search" target="_blank">images . google . com |

Sad indeed, he could have made a worthwhile contribution, Instead he is just another contributer to the wasteland america he rallies against. As for Winstons photo.......The Russian soldiers sawing of the chechen rebels head with a foot long knife is far more poignant.... |
