647546 2008-03-09 03:30:00 I am trying to print from a DOS file. I have a batch file which uses the command "Net use Lpt1 \\computername\printername" It has always worked before, but now I get the error msg 66.What is the fix?
Thanks,
Mack

647547 2008-03-09 03:52:00 Which Operating System are you running?

If it's Vista, make sure you run the cmd prompt/program as administrator.

There isn't a password on the 'server' computer at all is there?

Try net use /?, see if that is of any help.

Make sure you have the syntax correct, it should go like

NET USE LPT1 \\servername\printername password /user:username

..I think. :waughh:

Could you give us a bit more background? Was it working and it stopped, are you setting it up on a new PC...?

647548 2008-03-09 04:16:00 I am running Windows XP SP1. The batch program ran yesterday. I should have said the command is "net use lpt1: \\computername\printername" - I left out the colon in my earlier posting. I am the administrator. There is no password involved.
Thanks
Mack

647549 2008-03-09 06:39:00 Check your DOS file.
Make sure there are no direct commands in it. d

647550 2008-03-09 19:53:00 Probably won't fix your problem, but I'd recommend installing SP2. wratterus (105)
647551 2008-03-09 20:46:00 The batch program ran yesterday.
Have you changed settings since that time, Programs or any thing else installed?

647552 2008-03-09 23:01:00 The "net use" connection with the printer may have become corrupted.

Try this commend to reset it :

net use lpt1 /delete

----

Also, I would seriously consider what wratterus said about installing SP2 :)

647553 2008-03-10 02:23:00 Actually, I do have SP2, and all updates are current. Wondrous to relate, the problem has corrected itself! I don't know how, but threatening the computer with a good thrashing may have played a part! Thanks to all who helped.

Percussive Maintenance, The fine art of whacking the crap out of an electronic device to get it to work again.

Anytime! Glad you got it sorted. :banana
