| 647246 | 2008-03-08 01:23:00 | I'm a wee bit confused when it comes to purchasing a new cpu fan. Mobo: Abit-IC7-G(Socket 478). CPU: Intel 3.0g Prescott(early model). [1] So i've been looking @ "Socket 478 / Prescott Compatible" coolers & have found 1 in particular "THERMALTAKE POLO 735 3-IN-1 COOLER, FOR P4/K7/K8" (www.c1com.co.nz) but the "Intel P4 478 Prescott FMB1.5 3.6GHz"...especially the FMB1.5 bit has me stumped. Do i need to worry about it or iggy it?. [2] Also do i need a Prescott enabled fan or will a generic 478 do fine? [3] I am liking the look of the 1 above but any recomendations for others that will suit my Mobo/CPU combo? I'm not looking to spend more then $50-60, just wanting a decent fan for it. :thanks |

| 647248 | 2008-03-08 11:52:00 | problem with those fancy fans that are capable of high revs is that they can sound a bit like a small aeroplane engine within the case.....I had one that would go to 6000 rpm and hey it was VERY noisy....... prescott cpu's run hotter than other 478 pin processors so you need a good fan yes.... but heres soem very good choices www.trademe.co.nz and that page also includes the very same fan/controller combo that you are lookin at but it's cheaper |

I do prefer to buy brand new or as close to as possible . . . |

I've looked @ TradeMe b4 but was confused b/w 478 fans Vs 478 Prescott Fans. Whether Prescott CPU needed a "478 Prescott Fan" or standard "478 Fan" would do. |

| 647251 | 2008-03-08 23:31:00 | I brought some crap a while ago it sounded like a plane. It didnt cool anything down at all. Things got hotter. In the end I chucked it out. It was worse. I went back to the standard one. |

| 647252 | 2008-03-09 01:17:00 | Some Prescotts ran very hot and needed lots of fan in addition to good heatsink. I have known them to bake the P C board. |
