2008-03-07 02:47:00 | Ok I have recently been receiving mail from someone with the same name as I my email is nigel.lastname@gmail but the mail I am receiving appears to be addressed to nigellastname@gmail I remember someone mentioning something about the fullstop in gmail recently However i can't find the post, so anyhelp would be appreciated Oh and before anyone mentions it The mail does appear to be legitimate and not spam and before any smart@rses mention it, yes having a last name of lastname is confusing

2008-03-07 03:20:00 | Gmail appears to ignore . in email addresses "Gmail's requirement that all usernames be at least six characters in length is meant to keep spam out of your inbox. (Dots or periods don't count as characters when creating your username.)"

2008-03-07 04:04:00 | No - you can make an email addy for Gmail using .'s. Yup, pretty sure you have to have a . rather than a _ (if you wanted one) ie, my hotmail account is Account_name@hotmail.com and my gmail one is Account.name@gmail.com

2008-03-07 04:11:00 | my gmail address is firstnamelastname67@gmail.com I don't bother with symbols can be confusing as I have a relative with very bad sight problems, so leaving out .'s or _'s is better for me to use.

2008-03-07 04:38:00 | I remember someone mentioning something about the fullstop in gmail recently However i can't find the post, so anyhelp would be appreciated You're possibly reffering to my post (pressf1.co.nz) in the "Do you use Gmail?" thread. It basically says that full stops don't matter so you'd even receive email sent to n.i.g.e.l.l.a.s.t.n.a.m.e@gmail.com (you may want to filter that one as spam) or any other variation on the alphanumeric characters interspersed with periods, except for overly long email addresses (can't remember but I think its up in the thousands).
