341847 2005-04-05 06:58:00 The comp.risks newsgroup has 3 copies (so far) of a posting titled "Last Rites Declaration Ioannes Paulus PP.II (Karol Vojtyla)".

It purports to have been sent by the Vatican News Office. It has been broadcast all over the news groups ... a Google search in newsgroups shows 7880 copies ... including one to news.admin.net-abuse.sightings, so there might be some reaction. ;)

It's an odd document, almost odd enough to be genuine. But the curses it will cause might outweigh all the prayers of Catholics.

341848 2005-04-05 07:33:00 Just looks like a major spamming attack to me. Doubt it is "offical". A google search shows it on tennis forums, unix forums, microsoft newsgroups, basically every type of forum you can imagine. All very bizzare. Wonder about their motives.

Lots of the google links go nowhere now, which suggests the post has been deleted by that sites admin/mods.

341849 2005-04-05 09:43:00 Hi let me introduce myself. I am the Late Charles Chugga Chugga Bombast, formerly private secretary to the Late Earnest Umpoko Hubba Hubba, ex President of Nigeria. Since we were both killed in a coup last month we have discovered more than $US25 million in funds from the State Toothbrush Procurement Agency which has inadvertantly been transferred to President Hubba Hubba's account in the Holy Bank of the Afterlife. Unfortunately, after a review of our case by St Peter it seems likely that we will both shortly be transferred straight to Hell. Since this money can not benefit anyone if it stays dormant in the HBA, we have approached you as a possible partner to help us secure this money and have it safely transferred to the Sizzling Hot Mutual Saving Society of Hell where it would be invaluable in securing for us both a lifestyle more approbriate to our status.

Should you desire to help us in this matter we can guarantee you 20% of the sum as recompense for your assistance. I stress that this is a risk free transaction and perfectly legal. All that we require is your bank account details at the HBA so that w emay transfer the money into your account ....
