I have now obtained two methods of being able to do this for those that also expressed interest. The first is the use of a JVC S-VHS recorder. The model I obtained is a combo machine containing a DVD player and a S-VHS VCR. This is now an obsolete model ( HR XVS20 ) but can still be found in a few shops around Auckland that I am aware of. Price is around $500 and a new model has been released although only a S-VHS VCR deck this time, no combo. This allows you to record the program in S-VHS mode and play it back through a television with Teletext enabled. The 2nd more technical method and moving with the times as I wished to do was the use of a DVD recorder. For this I purchased a 2nd hand NEC Teletext decoder off the Trademe (http://trademe.co.nz) website. These are an obsolete model from around 15-20 years ago but can still be found from time to time. The method of connection involves using a VCR on the front end to select the channel for the decoder, the decoder then being placed in the subtitle page (801) and then taking the resulting feed signal into a DVD/ Harddrive recorder utilising an AV input and recording it. The result can then be played back with no further decoding required and the subtitles will appear on screen. All my research into the various makes and models resulted with essentially the same answer that they all strip the signal become it is encoded if you were to record straight from an aerial connection. Therefore the decoder must go on the front end and a AV line in used. Hopefully both her indoors and myself will now both be happy. :) |

| 341213 | 2005-12-10 05:47:00 | Well done indeed! Have you tried taking the AV otput (with tetext mode operational) from the VCR and feeding into a DVD recorder? - If you can do so without the tape mechanism working then hopefully the unit will last longer - it's what I do. | Tony_M (7792) | ||
