339703 2005-03-30 21:28:00 Hi.

I have got a new (2nd hand) TV didn't come with an aerial so I bought some bunny ears and the picture is perfect but the sound lousy. I am in line of sight to a transmitter about 10 -15 k away and would have thought that the picture reception would be harder to transmit and recieve clearly. It's a TV/video in one and the sound using a vid is fine so it's not the speaker.

Any ideas? Will have to get an outiside aerial anyway but thought there might be some TV guru here who could enlighten me about about the peculiarities of picture/audio sending and receiving.

TIA m

339704 2005-03-30 21:51:00 Try fine tuning, if that does not improve things then it may be a fault in the discriminator section of the receiver.

The sound is on a subcarrier adjacent to the picture, and should not be unduly affected by anything apart from tuning, even then its unusual.

I would suspect an internal fault in the detection process?

339705 2005-03-30 22:28:00 Thanks very much for that. I will try fine tuning and am getting an aerial soon so will see what that does. Will be a while. I'm at work. mark c (247)
339706 2005-03-30 23:50:00 also check what system the sound is set to. it should be 5.5 not 4.5, 6.0 etc tho sometimes they have it listed as a location (eg NZ/Indone...) and you may need to try a few different ones. tweak'e (69)
339707 2005-03-31 01:02:00 Thanks tweak'e am going to see the guy I bought if off this arvo. Decent joker, don;t think he sold mne a pup or anything. He said it worked fine at his place but said the screen wasn't wide enough to fit in a whole golf course. mark c (247)

339709 2005-04-01 22:06:00 Thanks for all the tips. Had great fun pushing buttons until finally figured out what they did. Have got 2 out 3 channels. Still working on the last but reception for both audio & video is now excellent.

Rhubarb Muffins to you all. :D :D
