| 340989 | 2006-06-23 01:12:00 | I think not :groan: In short: I have been clinically depressed since 1998. It was a traumatic event that set me off. I have been on Aropax,Citalopram and now Venlafaxine used to treat Major Depression. I could not do without this medication.Period.My brains Seretonin deficient. Moreover,my Venlafaxine also modulates noradreniline which keeps me motivated.However.I'm seeking medical advise to address Dopamine and Norepherine levels. I'm glad that the drugs are keeping you balanced and functional. It conflicts directly with my own experiences and observations, which only goes to prove that it is a diverse world indeed. You say that you have been "clinically depressed since 1998". May i ask what if anything you have done to address the issues with tools such as counciling and so forth? I fully believe that when/if one regains control of oneself, one will have learnt to laugh again, even if the sense of humor is twisted and the laugh is evil, (speaking for myself again) but till one relearns this, and replenishes ones seretonin levels naturally, the problems and/or the drugs will remain in control. Of course i could be wrong. :p |

Add empty nest syndrome to being traded in for a much younger female and you have mum/gran looking for a permanent way out too. Standing on the kerb waiting for the next large truck to step in front of ....... until you look up into the drivers eyes .........****, I really didn't want to go back there. Bandaid drugs are OK short term ~ for me. Eventually you get angry & pissed off enough to get your life back on track even if it's not the same track. To all who are hurting, please hang on, it really can get better. Hugs :) |

It conflicts directly with my own experiences and observations, which only goes to prove that it is a diverse world indeed . We are all unique and lifes events affect us in difference ways but there is some evidence that suggest that some people have a predisposition to mental type illnesses i . e . chemical imbalances that need to be addressed . This is why some drugs work better for some than others . It can take awhile to find the right drug (so hang in there anyone in that situation) . Of course the professionals say that therapy should also be carried out with a course of drugs . Of course in todays mental health system it can take months to get in, unless you can afford to pay for it yourself and a month can be a very along time for someone who is depressed . Its my life, its between me and my doctor to work out what works for me and it ain't anyone else's business (although Pharmac might ;) ) . Of course, that is why people don't talk about mental illness . People will judge them and think they are "weird", or "can't handle it" and you get that "pull yourself together" crap . Prozac has proven to be a very effective drug with little side effects and can even help people with eating disorders and obsessions . That is why so much is dispensed (and yes to some people that don't really need it) . And, it is very difficult to overdose on Prozac . It, and other drugs in that family, have no doubt helped thousands of people who have come close to the edge and bought them back (with a course of therapy too) . I know there are a lot of people out there who want everyone in the world to be (legal) drug free but that is totally unrealistic . End of rant . Anyone out there who is feeling desperate, I hope you can find the help you need . Talk to someone in your family, doctor, a close friend, whoever will listen (it can be difficult to find the right person) . If they say "pull yourself together", they are not the right person to be talking to . |

| 340994 | 2006-06-25 11:00:00 | Just heard about two more suicides this week: One a person I was acquainted with back in the kidlet's kindy days and thought she had an enviable lifestyle; the other a 25 year-old son of my sister-in-law's friend. :( |

| 340995 | 2006-06-25 11:42:00 | Around this time last year, one of my friends killed himself. Worst part was, he lived ten houses away. I did not know about it till the day after. :angry Then there were rumors going around that he was murdered and was made to look like suicide. :annoyed: One thing is for certain, I'll never know and no-one will know the truth. Then again, having a close family friend as well as my grandfather die of cancer within four years of each other as well as my friends death... well lets just say, it sucks to be me. |
