2005-04-27 03:12:00 | What about hanging it around your neck? I wear my USB flash drive on a cord around my neck so that I don't forget it, usually stuffed down my top to prevent it getting hooked up on something and strangling me. :p Your cellphone shouldn't be too big to do the same so you are bound to be able to feel and hear it then. Hopefully it is like our new one and has a little loop to thread a cord through otherwise you will have to get creative. ;) :D But if you do lose it while its hanging around your neck, give me a call. I will look for it.

2005-05-04 11:24:00 | Hey Beetle, I've been having similar sound problems with mine. Today I finally rang the firm I bought it from and they said some are quieter than others - and it is fixable. They are sending me a courier envelope to send it back for tweaking under warranty. A week or so turnaround - make it two weeks as first the envelope has to arrive, then it has to go to them, then the technician... Should know more then. My record (for 1 hour) to date is 9 missed calls, 1 missed text message and an offer of a bucket of water to dump it in (this was offered when I got home).

2005-05-04 23:05:00 | I found the best way for me to know it is ringing is wear jeans and put it in hip pocket with vibrate on (what do I do tomorrow when I have to get dressed up?). If you see a car swerve suddenly on the road - it probably means it has caught me unawares. First the shock of the vibrate on hip bone followed closely by trying to get it out of said pocket in a hurry - sitting down with seat belt and seam of pocket getting in the way. 16 and a half months till free upgrade... I have little faith that the technicians can fix it but we can but try.

2005-05-05 05:10:00 | It seems fairly fundamental that when a phone rings, you should be able to hear it . I'm appalled that consumers accept quiet phones . I suspect that it is a subtle problem . When you first get the phone, you overlook missing a few calls, because it might have been noisy at the time of the call . You aren't quite sure . Also having made a choice, human nature is that we don't want the choice to be a turkey . So we give it the benefit of the doubt . When we wise up, time has passed and naturally the retailer isn't keen to see a phone return from the dim and distant sales history of last week . But surely the product is not fit for it's purpose if you have to wear it near your head at all times . Consumer Guarantees Act and Sale of Goods Act . Sounds like a good one for Fair Go or Consumer to investigate . Indeed I'm looking forward to seeing Beetle get a fair go from Philip Alpers . :D

2005-05-05 07:22:00 | You are quite right Winston . Mine came by mail with a 7 day return guarantee . Being quite different from my 5 year old Nokia I spent the next couple of weeks playing with the buttons, menus etc and generally working out how to use the thing . This may sound odd but being a different brand the intuitive approach to buttons was generally wrong . It took a while to sink in that there was a problem with the volume . This, in part, was due to the different case and clip for the phone . The old case clipped securely to the strap on my bag . When the phone rang I opened the velcro and slid it out . The new one is a flip phone - firmly ensconsed in its case . The catch also doesn't double back on itself and slides off the strap . End result I assumed the problem stemmed from the way I was carrying it - partially inside the bag in an open pocket rather than outside it . Finally thought I'd found an answer to this one - and promptly missed the next call . The only answer to date is to carry it in a pocket on vibrate . Courier bag arrived today, will send it off tomorrow and await the technicians verdict .

2005-05-26 10:17:00 | Hey Beetle, Got the phone back yesterday. Job sheet says: "Replaced ringer. Tested to specs. Note: Leather case would causing this problem also. Recommend customer not using leather case" Well oh suppliers: - why did you sell me a leather case built for the phone if it hampers its use? - if I don't use a leather case with clip how else am I supposed to carry it? (The ringer won't be heard from inside a bag and I don't fancy carrying it on the wrist strap). It may be a little louder - although I missed a text message from my jeans pocket in the car earlier. It still is no where as loud as the old Nokia I've been carting around for the last two weeks. Maybe slightly better than it was - but with my cash conscious friends and family it could take a while for a full test (like whether I am still missing calls).
