If you can capture it at dvd specification mpeg - NERO shouldnt need to transcode it - saving hours on a slow pc.

647361 2008-03-08 08:07:00 The program for these is also the program for the tuner itself.

So, it not only records whatever is connected to its cvbs connection (video in), it also records the normal TV programs. (not freeview, sky, or satellite tho).

And records in either MPEG1/ MPEG2 / VCD / Super VCD / DVD format. (not too sure if this option would create the folders for a DVD, or not). Havent tried this option yet.

If it did, all you would have to do is use Nero and burn to DVD maybe?

Or it can burn directly to DVD, when you record whatever.

647362 2008-03-08 08:12:00 I bought a capture card & went through this some time ago to save all the home vidio of the family growing up. Finally got some good copies but what a mission.
I've since bought a Hard Drive DVD writer for the Telly & you can plug almost any device into it & copy from it.
A whole lot easier than using a PC.

No,it will save mpegs which is a good start - The dvd-video structure has extra little files and the mpegs turn into . vob container . Thats so that you can have your subtitles and multiple languages stored in there .

Still, nero does that, and if the files are mpeg it shouldnt take long at all to author a dvd-video disc .

647364 2008-03-08 08:28:00 Yup it records in MPEG format, and doesnt take too long at all to burn to DVD.

I recorded Head of state off TV2, a few ago (Chris Rock), it ended up being 6.1 GB.

Just chucked it in Nerovision, edited it took the ads out (about 30 mins), and it was just under the right size to burn to DVD.

647365 2008-03-08 08:33:00 Just remember, for a VHS, it will take a long time for the whole process. Be ready for that! beeswax34 (63)

It'll only take as long as the movie .

And what its playing, depending on the program youre using you'll also see it on the computer screen .

And depending on how big it is, will depend on whether you can burn it to a normal DVD or a DL DVD .

This is much easier than faffing around with a computer/capture card etc!
Have done VCR>DVD transfers myself, works perfectly.

If quality is less of an issue, and getting maximum duration is important
You dont exactly need DVDs shortplay 8mbps for nannas birthday footage.

You can always encode as ~1000kbps divx which will play on many standalone DVD players if that suits you.

Whats happening with Bluray-R?
